Manufacturing Process Engineer 5 (Process Control Lead)
Location: Lansing, MI
Pay: $50–55/hr + PTO, holidays, full benefits
Type: Long-term contract (~52 weeks, potential extension)
Work Arrangement: 100% onsite
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Process Engineer 5 (Process Control Lead) ensures robust Body Shop quality systems by managing Process Control Plans (PCP), PFMEA activities, and Built-In Quality (BIQ) requirements. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert driving error-proofing, risk reduction, and compliance across joining and fastening processes to support production stability, product quality, and audit readiness.

Shift: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (EST)

Key Responsibilities
Process Control & Quality Systems
- Manage and maintain Process Control Plans (PCP) and PFMEA processes
- Drive BIQ compliance and risk-reduction initiatives
- Coordinate PCP documentation updates and implementation
- Serve as Body Shop PFMEA subject matter expert
- Support Safety Stock oversight and Stagnant Car reporting
Joining & Fastening Process Oversight
- Support welding and torque joining processes
- Oversee torque systems, wrench calibration, and torque gun qualification
- Verify daily torque compliance and set-and-run conditions with Production
- Conduct weld quality checks and lead reviews
Cross-Functional Coordination & Meetings
- Lead weekly weld meetings and monthly Joining Board reviews
- Participate in daily quality meetings to resolve issues
- Provide guidance on product standards and process compliance
- Support Production Shift Leaders, Group Leaders, and related teams
Equipment Calibration & Surface Quality
- Monitor calibration status of production equipment and tools
- Support surface quality reviews and corrective actions
- Ensure adherence to product specifications and quality requirements
Audit & Compliance Support
- Represent Body Shop in internal/external audits (ISO, BIQ, torque, weld, GQR)
- Act as primary contact for Tool Equipment Bulletins
- Coordinate with dispense material suppliers (e.g., Henkel, Chemico)
- Ensure compliance with standards and plant procedures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred (not required)
- 2–4 years manufacturing or automotive experience
- Experience with robotic equipment, welding, or torque systems
- Quality control experience in production environments
- Strong problem-solving and ISO-based process knowledge
- Data analysis, risk identification, and corrective action skills
- Strong communication and attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior-level manufacturing process engineering experience
- Automotive Body Shop background
- PFMEA, PCP, and BIQ expertise
- Audit preparation or execution experience
