Inventory Control Specialist


Type of Position:

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with no fixed end date (not a temporary role). The intention is to evaluate the contractor for direct hire conversion, using the contract period as an initial performance and fit evaluation period. Conversion commonly occurs around 6 to 8 months, though it may happen as early as 3 months or later depending on performance, attendance, business needs, and internal approval. This role is intended for candidates seeking long-term employment.


Candidate Requirements:

This role supports a major defense contractor and requires candidates to be either U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents/Green Card holders to meet ITAR compliance requirements. Candidates who require or currently hold work authorization through F1-CPT, F1-OPT, H-1B, TN, or other temporary visa classifications are not eligible for this role. Due to the nature of the work and federal contractor requirements, offers may be contingent upon successfully completing a background check and drug screening, which may include testing for cannabis. There are no exceptions to this requirement, including for medical marijuana cardholders.


Job Location:

Maple Grove, MN (on site role).


Compensation:

$25.23/hr. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

  • Available (health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, etc) – benefit eligibility begins the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
  • This role will have 6 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.


Overview:

HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a leading defense contractor to hire a detail-oriented Inventory Control Specialist to support warehouse inventory accuracy and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for inventory tracking, cycle counting, material handling, and inventory reconciliation activities within a fast-paced warehouse environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, inventory management experience, and the ability to work safely and efficiently while maintaining accurate inventory records. Candidates interested in overtime opportunities and supporting large-scale inventory improvement projects are encouraged to apply. This role will support critical inventory accuracy initiatives, including wall-to-wall inventory counts and ongoing inventory improvement projects. Candidates who demonstrate flexibility and availability for overtime opportunities will be given preference.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and inspect incoming containers using appropriate hand tools.
  • Count, weigh, sample, and verify materials received and stored within the warehouse.
  • Load and unload materials onto pallets, trays, and storage locations.
  • Utilize computer systems to track, log, verify, and record inventory transactions.
  • Perform physical inventory counts through manual counting and scale-based verification methods.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate discrepancies.
  • Operate handheld scanners to locate, verify, and process inventory transactions.
  • Read and interpret shipping documentation and inventory records.
  • Support cycle counting, wall-to-wall inventory counts, and inventory improvement initiatives.
  • Follow established safety procedures and warehouse operating standards.
  • Contribute to process improvement efforts that enhance inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with other warehouse and inventory-related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • High school diploma OR GED
  • Minimum of three years of inventory management or inventory control experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience using handheld barcode scanners and inventory tracking systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to read and understand shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (and Outlook Email).
  • Data entry and inventory management systems
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, early mornings, or evenings as business needs require.


Preferred:

  • Forklift certification and operating experience.
  • High-Reach Truck certification and operating experience.
  • Experience operating propane and electric-powered forklifts.
  • Previous experience supporting large-scale inventory audits, cycle counts, or inventory improvement projects.

Work Environment:

  • This is a 1st (day) shift role. This role follows a 9/80 schedule, with 9-hour days Monday through Thursday, an 8-hour workday every other Friday, and the alternate Friday off. Shift starts at 6:00am. Role may require occasional overtime (OT). Occasional weekend work as needed (won’t be common). 
  • There may be occasional overtime in this role. Any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
  • This will be an on-site role (no remote work). 
  • Physical requirements: ability to stand and walk for the duration of a shift, ability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday, full range of motion and physical capability to perform warehouse duties.
  • Offer may be contingent on a background check and a drug screening, which would include testing for cannabis. There would be no exceptions to the drug screening (eg: for individuals with a medical marijuana card).
