Position: Lead CNC Maintenance Technician
Location: Coldwater, MI
Shift: 2nd. 2:30PM-11PM
Pay: $30-33/hour
Long term contract to hire
Position Summary
Provide direct leadership to shift personnel to ensure production requirements are met by responding to all equipment issues in a timely manner. Responsible for repairs and improvement activities, including weekends and vacation coverage as needed. Will assist with special rebuilds and support projects when necessary. Tasks may include the repair or exchange of machine components, conveyors, motors, mechanical drives, electrical/electronic control boxes and devices, PLCs, switches and control mechanisms, electrical wiring, gauges/meters, pumps, and other equipment used in the Machining Department. Responsible for assisting in the creation of operation standards and sensitive departmental documentation.
Essential Functions
- Direct manpower for daily repairs and activities based on production requirements.
- Complete yearly performance evaluations for personnel and provide development or improvement plans.
- Ensure manpower coverage in response to vacation or call-in needs.
- Train staff to reach skill levels necessary to respond to all equipment issues.
- Lead by example on all safety-related policies and practices (LOTO, Arc Flash, Confined Space, Fall Protection, etc.).
- Communicate daily activities with each shift leader to ensure clear understanding of carryover tasks.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools; reassemble equipment as needed.
- Perform preventative maintenance to keep machines running smoothly and facility systems operating efficiently.
- Inspect drives, motors, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions per checklists.
- Operate tools ranging from basic hand and power tools (hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches) to precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices.
- Assemble, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical/electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions using blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Record maintenance and repair work performed, including costs.
- Clean and lubricate machinery components such as shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts.
- Dismantle equipment to access and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Adjust functional parts and control instruments using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Level and set-up new equipment following installation.
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts and tools.
- Estimate repair costs.
- Achieve company and departmental health and safety goals.
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
Experience
- Three or more years of leadership experience working with electrical and mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLCs.
- Must have the ability to understand electrical ladder diagrams and motor control circuits.
Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Allen Bradley software, Mitsubishi software, and robotics software.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
