Engineering Project Manager (EPM) – Defense Programs
Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $55–$75/hour
Employment Type: Contract

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager (EPM) to support advanced defense vehicle programs within a leading automotive and defense organization. This role supports key wheeled platforms, including Stryker and Sgt. Stout, with a focus on production support and sustainment activities.
The EPM will lead cross-functional engineering teams and be responsible for delivering technical solutions within scope, schedule, and budget while ensuring quality and mission readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Support to Production
- Lead resolution of production-related problem reports and technical issues
- Partner with engineering leads to develop and validate corrective actions for critical risks
- Support and coordinate activities related to the Joint Change Review Board (JCRB)
- Ensure production issues are addressed with urgency and technical accuracy
Sustainment, Task Orders & Obsolescence
- Serve as a primary technical interface for internal teams, customers, and subcontractors
- Support proposal development and execution of customer RFP responses
- Develop and manage Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) across engineering and supplier teams
- Ensure alignment between GDLS and subcontractor deliverables
Program & Project Management
- Apply Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles to manage cost, schedule, and scope
- Forecast engineering resource requirements and manpower planning
- Identify risks/issues early and drive resolution to closure
- Deliver regular program status updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and track performance metrics to ensure project success
- Interpret and manage contractual scope, requirements, and deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Systems Engineering, or related technical field

10+ years of relevant experience in engineering/project management

5+ years experience in defense, automotive, or similar complex engineering environments
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects
- Strong background in EVMS, budgeting, forecasting, and schedule management
- Proven ability to lead teams and build strong customer relationships
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and standard project management tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA or MS)
- Experience supporting ground combat vehicle programs or similar defense platforms
- Familiarity with contractual management, critical path analysis, and program financials
Additional Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (required due to defense program work)
- Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and/or international)
- Must be able to work onsite in Sterling Heights, MI
