Research Lab Technician

Location: West Jefferson, OH

Pay Rate: $22.00/hour

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Weekend Schedule Required: Friday–Sunday plus two additional weekdays (1st Shift)

Employment Type: 6-month contract with opportunity for permanent hire

Position Overview

We are hiring a Research Lab Technician to support a growing on-site research team in West Jefferson, Ohio. This is a hands-on, physically active role ideal for candidates who are dependable, comfortable working weekends, and interested in building experience in laboratory animal research.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care & Research Support

• Perform daily husbandry for small laboratory animals, primarily rodents
• Conduct routine animal observations and document health, behavior, and conditions
• Assist research staff with dosing and study-related procedures as trained

Laboratory & Operational Duties

• Perform routine laboratory tasks following written procedures and instructions
• Operate basic lab and animal-care equipment safely and correctly
• Accurately record work activities, observations, and results
• Perform basic data review and routine analysis as assigned
• Identify and report deviations from standard procedures
• Communicate work status, issues, and observations to supervisors
• Support multiple projects and day-to-day lab operations
• Assist with general lab and animal facility upkeep and organization
• May assist with training or guiding new or less experienced team members

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related field or equivalent education and/or experience
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Reliable transportation to the West Jefferson work site
• Ability to work a weekend-focused schedule (Friday–Sunday)
• Willingness to work overtime when needed
• Ability to perform physically demanding work (standing, lifting, repetitive tasks)
• Comfort working with laboratory animals or willingness to learn
• Ability to follow instructions and work under close supervision

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

• Prior experience in animal care, laboratory research, or technical environments
• Familiarity with animal husbandry or regulated research settings
• Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn new procedures

Work Environment

• Fully on-site research facility in West Jefferson, OH
• Physically active role involving animal handling and facility work
• Weekend-focused schedule is required

Interview Process

• In-person interview at the West Jefferson location
• Interviews conducted by supervisors and senior staff
• Interview times typically scheduled between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM

• Position is open due to team expansion
• No security clearance required
• Permanent employment may be available after the 6-month contract period based on performance and business needs
