Material Planner – Manufacturing Operations

Position Overview

We are seeking a Material Planner to support manufacturing operations by ensuring the timely flow of materials needed to meet production schedules. In this role, you will manage MRP-driven planning activities, monitor inventory levels, and coordinate closely with production, supply chain, and warehouse teams to maintain material availability and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while balancing multiple priorities.


Key Responsibilities

Material Planning & Scheduling

  • Execute and manage MRP-driven production schedules to ensure materials are available for manufacturing.
  • Monitor demand forecasts, production schedules, and incoming supply to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Coordinate the delivery of materials to the shop floor and production areas.

Inventory & Material Control

  • Perform inventory audits and cycle counts to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Identify and resolve risks related to stock shortages, obsolete inventory, and misplaced materials.
  • Analyze stock-out trends and implement corrective actions to prevent production disruptions.

Production & Shop Floor Support

  • Act as a liaison between production, supervision, and material control teams.
  • Track work order progress and monitor material consumption throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Manage goods transactions including posting materials to stock and processing move orders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, supplier quality, warehouse, and operations teams to resolve material constraints.
  • Support Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) processes and supplier coordination.
  • Maintain and adjust PFEP (Plan for Every Part) strategies to align with production demands.

Systems & Reporting

  • Utilize MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) to manage planning and inventory data.
  • Generate reports related to scrap, cycle times, reorder activity, and inventory performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including material requests, shipping documentation, and release orders.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1+ years of experience in material planning, supply chain, or operations
  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or defense environments
  • Background in inventory control and warehouse operations
  • Experience with PFEP (Plan for Every Part) and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
  • Strong analytical and process improvement skills
