Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 6-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 6 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 3 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Job Location:
Bloomfield, CT (on-site role).
Compensation:
$23.00/hr to $30.00/hr (depending on experience) to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x over 40 hours)

- Available (health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, etc) – benefit eligibility begins the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
- This role does not include built-in PTO during the contract period, but a comprehensive PTO package would be available upon conversion to a direct hire position. Unpaid time off is permitted with manager approval.
Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and distributes engines, filtration, and power generation products to hire an Engine Test Technician for our Bloomfield, CT facility. This role performs performance and reliability testing on engines, components, and installations in test cells. Candidates with solid gasoline and/or diesel engine experience are highly preferred. Recent graduates from accredited automotive or diesel technical schools will also be considered, but hands-on engine experience is a top priority. We would love to have you join our team!
Responsibilities:
- Conduct performance and reliability testing on multiple- and single-cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls.
- Diagnose issues with engines, components, systems, controls, and test cell operations; initiate appropriate resolutions.
- Operate data acquisition systems; review, document, and maintain collected data and electronic files.
- Perform rig, engine, and component builds, tear-downs, and detailed inspections.
- Inspect and measure components for compliance and function.
- Fabricate piping, tubing, and brackets per prints and drawings; drill and tap material as necessary.
- Install engines and instrumentation for engines and components in test cells and test rigs.
- Execute test plans assigned by Engineering and Laboratory staff.
- Use mechanical tools and measuring equipment, including dial indicators, torque wrenches, and feeler gauges.
- Maintain accurate documentation of time worked on projects and submit weekly spreadsheets.
- Uphold clear written communication and effective problem-solving practices.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required at a minimum (higher level education is welcome but not required).
- We are generally looking for 5+ years of experience for candidates with a High School Diploma / GED. Candidates who have graduated from an automotive / diesel trade school or have a relevant Associate Degree (eg: Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar) will be considered with less experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience using hand tools
- Light fabrication experience (drilling, tapping, welding) is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of engine components and systems
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Effective problem-solving abilities
Work Environment / Other Info:
- This is a 1st (day) shift role. Our standard schedule is 8:00am to 4:30pm (Monday to Friday).
- Overtime is available on a voluntary basis. Any overtime will be paid at 1.5x.
- This will be an on-site role (no remote / hybrid work).
- Offer may be contingent upon a drug screen (which may include cannabis) and a background check.
