Mobility Engineer

About the role:
The Specialist Mobility Engineer will retain responsibility for Build Support, Test and Development of Full Up Powerpacks (FUPP) and associated modules for assigned programs. The role entails engagement in Test Protocol Definition, Test and Development Engineering, Test Execution, Issue Diagnosis & Problem Reporting, Validation & Verification and Design Support for the delivery of TDP for conventional, hybrid electric and fully electric powertrains for ground combat vehicles.
In addition it is expected that the candidate will engage in Facility Operations which may include installation, configuration and commissioning along with test set up and preparation.
Position Responsibilities:
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Evaluation of multiple Powerpack configurations in-vehicle and on test bench using different Engine, Transmission, MGU, Cooling, Air handling and Final drive configurations and components.
- Liaise directly or indirectly with suppliers of Powerpack modules and components.
- Interface with test providers and facilities.
- Test procedure development and execution from UUT Build and Instrumentation, through Installation and Execution, to Post processing and reporting.
- Testing may be at component/bench level, FUPP dyno, or vehicle/chassis rolls.
- Role is based at GDLS facility but may require attendance at partner test locations within
- Interface with internal stakeholders including IPT lead, Physical Architect, Systems Engineers, Functional Leadership, FUPP Lead, Chief Engineer, Logistics, Manufacturing and attribute managers/stake holders.
- Support internal report out to program stakeholders, customers and organizational leadership.
- Derive final design pathways and refine to design release and approval using prescribed GDLS processes.
- Support internal and external Milestones/Gateways.
- Document and Report findings and outcomes.
Position Requirements:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of demonstrable experience with testing and development of conventional and electrified powertrains is required
- PLM experience using TeamCenter is advantageous.
- Experience in interrogation and manipulation of data hosted by 3D Modeling software.
- Automotive or Heavy-Duty vehicle and/or powertrain experience required. Military land vehicle experience preferred.
- Excellent data analysis skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely is required.
- Mind-set to work collaboratively in a team environment for program success.
- Proven skills in the development of technical documents and oral communication.
