Electronics Technician (3rd Shift)


Type of Position:

This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 4 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.


Job Location:

Columbus, IN (on site role).


Compensation:

$26.67/hr to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x over 40 hours)

  • This role does not include built-in PTO during the contract period, but a comprehensive PTO package would be available upon conversion to a direct hire position. Unpaid time off is permitted with manager approval.


Job Description:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and distributes engines, filtration, and power generation products to hire an Electronics Technician on 3rd shift. We will, however, train on 1st shift for the first 1-2 months. This role is critical to maintaining test system availability and supporting troubleshooting, setups, and hardware/tool development during the night shift. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in electronic circuits, troubleshooting, and electronic tools/data measurement systems, with a proven background as a technician in a similar environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, prioritize, and complete assigned work orders during the night shift, including those created during the shift and those pre-assigned by the Lab Manager.
  • Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test system setup, maintenance, and calibration, ensuring smooth nightly operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in test systems and lab equipment.
  • Support daily setups and reconfigurations for HIL systems, benches, and test equipment.
  • Install and configure required software support items (e.g., CyberApps plant models, LUIS configurations, support sequences).
  • Modify existing test bench wiring harnesses and create peripheral connections to integrate sensors, actuators, and engine parts (e.g., IAT, EGR, VGT).
  • Maintain and update system configuration and CAN panel documentation (hardware, cards, serial numbers, wiring revisions, etc.).
  • Conduct harness and actuator cart maintenance checkouts as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with Hardware Engineers on project support needs.
  • Build and document custom test hardware, such as harnesses, ROM boot setups, or power supply integrations.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting guides, training materials, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support general lab maintenance, inventory tracking, and organization to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience as an electronics technician or in a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic circuits and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with electronic tools and data measurement systems.
  • Hands-on experience with wiring, harness modifications, and test system setups.
  • Ability to work independently on the night shift while maintaining collaboration with day-shift teams.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.


Work Environment / Other Info:

  • This role will begin on day shift for training (for 1 to 2 months). The schedule during the training period will be somewhere in the 8:00AM to 7:00PM timeframe (flexible schedule but an 8-hour shift) to get familiar with test systems, processes, teams, and lab operations. After that, you will work night shift (11:00PM to 7:00AM).
  • This will be an on site role (no remote / hybrid work).
