Position: CMM Operator - 2nd shift

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Shift:

  • 2nd Shift: 3:15 PM – 11:45 PM
  • Weekend support may be required based on production needs.

Pay: $36.00-40.00/hr

Contract (6-9 months with the possibility of extension)


Position Summary

The CMM Operator / Line Inspector is responsible for performing dimensional, visual, and functional inspections to ensure manufactured components meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. This role utilizes Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), precision hand gages, and other measurement equipment to verify compliance with detailed build plans, blueprints, and inspection procedures.

This position plays a key role in supporting quality assurance efforts by ensuring defect-free products through precise inspection, documentation, and adherence to established quality systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Perform dimensional, mechanical, and visual inspections using precision measurement equipment.
  • Use hand tools and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other hand gages to verify product specifications.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure components meet required tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections according to written instructions and inspection procedures.
  • Document applicable inspection and calibration results accurately within quality systems and inspection reports.
  • Verify calibration status of measuring and test equipment used within the work area, including reference materials.
  • Designate appropriate inspection methods and techniques to validate product compliance.
  • Set up and calibrate inspection equipment and evaluate results against applicable codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Troubleshoot inspection equipment and system issues as needed.
  • Establish and perform preventative maintenance procedures for inspection equipment.
  • Conduct periodic work reviews and audits to ensure compliance with quality system requirements.
  • Develop structured inspection reports and consistent feature labeling for effective data retrieval and interpretation.
  • Understand the importance of inspection activities in ensuring the delivery of defect-free products.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to support manufacturing operations and maintain product quality.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of relevant inspection experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing CMM inspections and hand gage checks.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools and inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures and computerized build plans.
  • Ability to perform precise, detailed work with strong attention to accuracy.
  • Basic mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and production floor environment.
  • Work may require extended standing and handling of precision components.
  • Position supports production schedules and quality requirements in a fast-paced environment.
