Position Summary
The Data Scientist is an individual contributor role responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex datasets using statistical methods, machine learning, and programming to generate insights and build models that solve real business problems. This role partners closely with technical and business stakeholders—particularly within supply chain and operations functions—to drive data-driven decision-making and advance Oshkosh’s data science strategy. This position is hands-on and execution-focused, not a people management or director-level role.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights
- Build, validate, and deploy advanced predictive models and machine learning algorithms
- Apply data science techniques to support supply chain, manufacturing, and operational use cases
- Integrate models into existing systems or support the development of new data-driven products
- Develop clear visualizations and written summaries to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with data analysts, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to support complex business requirements
- Lead and support data science initiatives, including visualization development, data quality improvements, and incident troubleshooting
- Document solutions and support incident, change, and problem management processes
- Coach and mentor peers on data science tools, technologies, and best practices
- Demonstrate deep understanding of business processes in at least one functional area, with working knowledge across multiple domains
- Support and advance the organization’s strategic data science roadmap

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in data science or a closely related field
- OR

Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in data science or a closely related field
Industry Experience (Preferred)

Experience in manufacturing, automotive, industrial, or engineering-driven environments is strongly preferred

Experience in other data-rich industries such as healthcare, retail, or biotech will also be considered

Heavy financial services–only backgrounds are not a fit for this role
Preferred / Standout Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.)

Experience supporting supply chain functions (e.g., demand planning, logistics, operations, inventory, manufacturing analytics)
- Expertise with Microsoft Power Platform
- Familiarity with Large Language Models (open-source or proprietary)
- Experience with front-end web application development (e.g., Flask, Gradio)
- Familiarity with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures
Pay

Salary: $139,800.00/year, up to 10% bonus
