Weld Quality Technician
The structures that leave this business must hold under the loads, environments and missions they were designed for. As Weld Quality Technician, you will decide—with evidence—whether a weld is fit to proceed, fit to ship, or fit to stop. Your judgement protects people, programmes and the reputation of work that has to be right the first time.
Performance Objectives
- Inspect production and repair welds to the applicable procedure and acceptance standard, and release only work that meets the defined criteria.
- Catch nonconformances at the point of manufacture, document them clearly, and drive containment so defective product does not move downstream.
- Complete first-article, in-process and final weld inspections on time, with records that stand up to customer and regulatory review.
- Verify welders, procedures and consumables before work starts, and stop the job when qualification or process control is incomplete.
- Turn inspection trends into specific corrective actions with production and welding engineering, and confirm those actions actually reduce repeat defects.
- Support audits and customer source inspections with traceable evidence, not recollection.
- Coach operators on what “acceptable” looks like so fewer defects are made, not just found.
Environment & Resources
You will sit in manufacturing quality, reporting to the quality lead for the cell or programme, and work daily with welders, supervisors and welding engineers. You will have calibrated gauges, visual aids, NDT access as required by the process, and a controlled quality system for records, nonconformances and corrective action. Work is primarily on site, alongside the weld process, with clear authority to hold product.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven weld inspection in aerospace, defence, marine or similarly controlled fabrication—not general visual checking alone.
- Working command of weld procedures, welder qualification and acceptance criteria, and the discipline to apply them without shortcuts.
- A recognised visual weld inspection qualification, with NDT certification where the process demands it.
- A record of writing nonconformances and inspection records that others can act on and auditors can trust.
- The confidence to stop work and the judgement to escalate only what truly needs it.
- Eligibility for the security clearance required for the site and programme.
Role Selling Points
- Work that matters: quality decisions on advanced defence, aerospace and security products.
- A voice in the process, not a rubber stamp at the end of the line.
- Skilled colleagues, formal standards and room to deepen inspection and NDT capability.
- A culture that values inclusion, practical support and pride in doing the job properly.
Call to Action
If you can look at a weld and know whether it should fly, float or fight, apply now. Tell us what you have released, what you have stopped, and the difference it made.
