Test Engineer – Robotics
Position Summary
The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test plans, procedures, and protocols for complex electromechanical systems, including robotic arms and unmanned ground vehicles. This role supports product development, manufacturing, and testing efforts through system validation, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical documentation.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of robotics and electromechanical systems, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the ability to work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment. This position also supports prototype fabrication, testing, and warranty service activities while partnering with engineering, manufacturing, quality, service, and sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
Test Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and protocols for robotic and electromechanical systems
- Define testing requirements and select appropriate instrumentation and test equipment
- Conduct testing of robotic systems utilizing embedded control software
- Verify system performance and functionality throughout development and production cycles
- Support integration, debugging, and validation activities
Troubleshooting & System Analysis
- Troubleshoot complex systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and control system domains
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to robotic and electromechanical systems
- Utilize instrumentation and test equipment including:
- Oscilloscopes
- Multi-meters
- Logic analyzers
- Force sensors
- Acceleration sensors
- Analyze test results and recommend corrective actions or design improvements
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and interpret test and manufacturing data
- Generate detailed test reports and technical documentation
- Track testing activities and communicate results to stakeholders
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other tools to support data analysis and reporting
Technical Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, service, and sales teams
- Communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, vendors, and customers
- Support prototype fabrication, testing, troubleshooting, and warranty activities
- Participate in design reviews and product development discussions
Project Management
- Manage assigned testing projects and activities
- Ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and within scope
- Support multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Perform additional engineering and testing duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering or testing experience
Technical Skills
- Broad understanding of electromechanical systems
- Strong troubleshooting and hands-on mechanical aptitude
- Experience creating:
- Test plans
- Test procedures
- Test protocols
- Technical documentation
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Mechanical drawings
- Electrical schematics
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting technical data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Familiarity with shop tools, including:
- Wrenches
- Drivers
- Cutting tools
- Experience using test and diagnostic equipment such as:
- Oscilloscopes
- Multi-meters
- Logic analyzers
- Force and acceleration sensors

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data analysis and reporting using Excel
- Experience using shop and fabrication tools
- CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
- Familiarity with military and environmental testing standards, including:
- MIL-STD-810
- MIL-STD-461
- Experience supporting robotics, autonomous systems, or unmanned vehicle programs
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based environment with moderate noise levels
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and copiers
- Frequent interaction with manufacturing and operations areas
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, oils, and temperature fluctuations may occur when supporting production and testing activities
Physical Requirements
- Alternate between sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry parts, equipment, and devices weighing up to 45 pounds
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow all safety, workmanship, and housekeeping requirements
Leadership Responsibilities
- May provide guidance to technicians and support personnel
- May supervise the work of technicians or other engineering support staff as required
