Job Title:
Firepower Hardware Engineer (Weapons Systems, Military Vehicles)
Type of Position:
This position is a long-term contract role with no fixed end date. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 6 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is ONLY open to US Citizens. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and any other work authorizations are NOT permitted here as this role requires eligibility to obtain a secret clearance (a secret clearance is only open to US Citizens). Clearance isn’t required to start (but all candidates must be eligible to obtain one). Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) – candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card). 
Job Location:
Sterling Heights, MI (on-site role).
  
Compensation:
$42.00/hr to $48.00/hr (depending on experience) to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

Overview:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a leading defense contractor to hire a Firepower Hardware Engineer for our facility in Sterling Heights, MI. The person in this role will play a critical role in the design, development, integration, and release of firepower and weapon-related subsystems for ground combat vehicles. This includes gun and turret drive systems, racerings, ammunition handling mechanisms, and associated hardware. The engineer will work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment to support concept design through production and testing phases. This position is ideal for a hands-on mechanical or mechatronics engineer with experience in complex mechanical systems, particularly those related to weapon or firepower integration.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, integrate, and release system and subsystem assemblies and their associated components.
- Develop articulating, locking, and sliding mechanisms that meet Human Factors and ergonomic requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to Design Services for CAD model and drawing creation (installation and detail).
- Support procurement, prototype build, and on-site integration activities; resolve design and fit issues as they arise.
- Perform preliminary design and analysis based on system requirements.
- Conduct and interpret tolerance stack-ups; apply GD&T principles.
- Contribute to failure analysis efforts and recommend corrective action solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, modification instructions, and design documentation.
- Collaborate within Integrated Product Teams and across cross-functional engineering disciplines.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (with relevant experience in weapon or firepower systems).
- 5 to 7+ years of experience in a professional engineering role (3 to 4 years considered for strong candidates).
- Experience in mechanical design for complex systems, preferably ground combat vehicles.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Creo preferred) for modeling and concept development.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management tools.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to perform tolerance analyses.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles, including material selection, manufacturing methods, and design validation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in an IPT environment.
- Must be able to work in office, shop, lab, and test site environments.
Preferred:
- Prior experience designing or integrating gun/turret drives, racerings, or weapon systems.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSA, Nastran, or LS-DYNA.
- Familiarity with military standards and ground vehicle design requirements.
Work Environment:
- This is generally a standard 1st (day) shift role. There may be occasional overtime as needed (any OT is paid at 1.5x). There may be occasional weekend work as needed (but this won’t be common).
- Travel as required to other facilities or military installations to support integration and testing may be required on occasion (but this won’t be frequent).
