Type of Position:
This position will be a long term / ongoing contract to start. There is no fixed end date (this is not a temporary position). Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to direct hire positions over time.
Job Location:
Livonia, MI (on site role).
Compensation:
$16.50/hr to $19.50/hr start (depending on experience). Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours. Some overtime is expected to be available in this role.

- This role will have 9 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there would be significantly more PTO.

We are looking for a Shipping Clerk to be based out of our Livonia, MI facility. Responsibilities:
- Process packages for deliveries using UPS and FedEx Software.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Dynamics AX Software.
- Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.
- Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
- Inserts items into containers.
- Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape.
- Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments.
- Loads all welding and assembly systems on flatbed trucks for delivery to customer plants. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Plan shipments and organizes transportation for customer deliveries.
- Performs light maintenance and cleaning of company owned trucks.
- Keeps the Shipping and Receiving area neat and clean at all times.
- Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns.
- Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent or GED is required at a minimum.
- At least 2 years Shipping & Receiving experience.
- At least 2 years Hi-Lo experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- This is a 1st (day) shift position, typical hours are 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. There may be occasional Saturdays as needed.
- Given the schedule, there will be regular overtime in this role. OT will be compensated at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.
- Training for your 1st week will be at out Sterling Heights, MI facility (after your 1st week, you will be fully in Livonia, MI).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
