Automotive Technician – Electric Vehicle (EV) Diagnostics & Repair
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Automotive Technician with experience in electric vehicle (EV) diagnostics and repair to support a fleet of test vehicles. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles used in active test programs. The ideal candidate brings strong electrical and mechanical expertise, along with hands-on experience using modern diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics on electric vehicles using OEM and aftermarket diagnostic tools
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, including high-voltage (HV) components, wiring, sensors, and control modules
- Diagnose and repair mechanical systems including suspension, braking, and drivetrain components
- Support test operations by repairing vehicles used in ongoing test drive programs
- Interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), CAN bus data, and system logs to identify root causes
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure vehicle readiness and safety
- Document repair procedures, findings, and resolutions clearly and accurately
- Collaborate with engineering and test teams to provide feedback on recurring issues or failures
- Follow all safety protocols, especially when working with high-voltage systems
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with vehicle diagnostics, including scan tools and software platforms
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electric vehicles or hybrid systems
- Solid understanding of electrical systems (wiring, circuits, sensors, control modules)
- Mechanical repair experience (brakes, suspension, general vehicle systems)
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical service documentation
- Experience working with CAN bus systems and vehicle communication networks
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with EV manufacturers or advanced vehicle testing environments
- High-voltage certification or training
- ASE certifications (especially Electrical/Electronic Systems – A6 or L3 Hybrid/EV)
- Familiarity with data logging tools and test validation processes
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical training or associate degree in automotive technology preferred
- 3+ years of hands-on automotive technician experience, with EV exposure strongly preferred
Work Environment
- Hands-on role in a garage, lab, or test environment
- May require flexibility to support test schedules, including occasional overtime
