Job Title: Machine Builder / Mechanical Assembler
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Pay: $28-30/hour
Long term contract to hire
Position Summary:
This role is responsible for the assembly of precision machinery and equipment according to mechanical drawings and internal standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and effective communication throughout the build process. The successful candidate demonstrates mechanical aptitude, operational versatility, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble equipment and sub-assemblies according to mechanical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Document and communicate any design changes, issues, or challenges throughout the build process.
- Perform tasks independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
- Adhere to ISO Quality Standards and internal procedures, ensuring product quality and compliance.
- Maintain effective communication with the Machine Build Lead regarding open issues and project progress.
- Support the achievement of project metrics related to cost, quality, delivery timelines, and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure organization and cleanliness of assigned work areas at all times.
- Assist in preparing materials for secondary processes, such as finishing, heat treating, and deburring.
- Operate equipment efficiently and safely, including but not limited to: mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, saws, and shears.
- Travel (domestic and international) may be required up to 20%, based on project needs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational or technical certification in a related field is preferred.
- Skills & Experience:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting part and assembly drawings (intermediate level or higher).
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.
- Ability to accept direction and complete assignments independently or as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to maintain a steady work pace, including bending, kneeling, ladder climbing, and working on or beneath machinery.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Willingness and ability to obtain required licenses/certifications while employed, including:
- Hi-Lo (Forklift), Aerial Platform, and Overhead Crane operation
- Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) training
- Must provide own hand tools and toolbox as per company recommendations.
- Demonstrated competency in all skills outlined within Module 1 of training requirements.
- Travel flexibility, both domestic and international, as projects require.
