Emissions Technician
Location: Allen Park, MI
Compensation: $28–$35 per hour
Shifts: Rotating (supporting three shift operations)
Position Overview
The Allen Park Emission Laboratory is seeking a skilled Emissions Technician with strong analytical and sampling system repair experience. The candidate will conduct preventative maintenance, unscheduled repairs, and quality control of emissions measurement equipment and related systems to ensure the reliable operation of the facility. The role also involves collaboration with vendors, inventory support, daily site reporting, and cross-functional work within multiple laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular test site maintenance, including preventive maintenance and required repairs on equipment.
- Respond to unscheduled maintenance and troubleshoot emission system issues quickly and accurately.
- Assist and coordinate with vendors during maintenance and repair activities as needed.
- Maintain accurate inventories of consumables and spare parts to ensure continuous laboratory operations.
- Keep detailed and up-to-date logs of daily site status, issues, and maintenance performed.
- Support powertrain emissions development, certification, homologation, and vehicle engineering problem resolution efforts.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new equipment and testing methodologies for emerging emissions and fuel economy requirements.
- Flexibly take on additional assignments to meet laboratory and corporate objectives.
- Collaborate and cross-function across different laboratory teams and environments.
Basic Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in emissions laboratory maintenance and site repair.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and emissions principles.
- Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and interpreting test results.
- Experience with analytical and sampling systems.
- Knowledge of dynamometer or chassis emission testing processes.
- Understanding of diesel engine emissions testing.
- Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills.
- Powertrain experience is highly desirable.
- Highly organized with excellent documentation abilities.
- Motivated, self-starter, and adaptable to evolving requirements and priorities.
- Ability to work effectively in a three-shift, team-based environment.
