Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Spring Hill, TN
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Pay: $45-47/hour
Shift: Rotating 1st & 2nd Shift
Position Summary
The Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for supervising electrical and mechanical skilled trades personnel within the General Assembly department of a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility. This role leads troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance activities for complex automated equipment, robotics, and conveyance systems to ensure uninterrupted production.
The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and sound decision-making while operating within Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles focused on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). This individual will play a key role in maintaining highly automated assembly operations supporting advanced vehicle production.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations Leadership
- Lead a team of skilled trades technicians to troubleshoot and repair complex manufacturing equipment and processes
- Support daily production plans by rapidly responding to equipment issues and operational needs
- Ensure effective preventive maintenance and root-cause diagnosis of equipment failures
- Maintain productivity, quality, and safety standards across assigned areas
- Coordinate labor, materials, and machinery for efficient operations
- Establish and execute action plans to complete maintenance projects and repairs
Team Supervision & Collaboration
- Supervise approximately 16 skilled trades employees in electrical and mechanical disciplines
- Provide strong floor support and direction for maintenance activities
- Drive accountability through performance management and coaching
- Address personnel issues, conflict resolution, and decision-making as needed
- Collaborate with production teams, maintenance planners, and cross-functional partners
- Maintain compliance with union agreements and company policies
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Analyze operational challenges and proactively implement solutions
- Conduct checks, tests, and evaluations of equipment performance
- Support initiatives to improve automation reliability and process quality
- Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Promote safety practices and good housekeeping standards
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience supervising or leading technical or skilled trades personnel
- Experience with automation and conveyance systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., email, Microsoft Office)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive manufacturing experience
- Experience with robotics and automated assembly systems
- Experience working in a union environment
- Knowledge of manufacturing timekeeping systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Self-directed with strong initiative and adaptability
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment
- Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
- Ability to lift up to 15 lbs regularly and up to 40 lbs occasionally
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to climb ladders and operate lifts when required
- Capability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to respond to alarms, signals, and safety instructions
Work Environment & Schedule
- Fully onsite role in a manufacturing facility
- Rotating schedule between 1st and 2nd shift
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs
- Fast-paced environment supporting highly automated assembly operations
