Machine Builder

Pay Rate: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour

Position Overview
We are seeking skilled Machine Builders to support subassembly and equipment build projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for candidates who can work independently with minimal direction and have strong experience with automotive build practices, particularly within GM, Ford, and Chrysler standards. The Machine Builder will support projects from build through installation at the customer site while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently assemble and build mechanical equipment with minimal supervision
- Support medium-complexity machine build and subassembly projects
- Follow equipment installation through all phases, from build to customer plant
- Interpret and work from BOMs, blueprints, and project timelines
- Verify part conformance to BOMs and drawings
- Assist project teams in identifying and resolving build or installation issues
- Update E-BOM summaries weekly and communicate status to the Mechanical Supervisor
- Perform basic welding as required
- Safely execute rigging and crane operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Adhere to company quality systems and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of machine building, mechanical assembly, or related experience OR
- a one-year technical certificate with equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong knowledge of GM automotive build practices (preferred)
- Experience with mechanical subassembly and machine installation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, BOMs, and technical documentation
- Basic welding skills
- Proficient in rigging and crane operation
- Must have own tools and PPE
- Strong attention to detail and quality
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb as required
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work around moving mechanical parts and elevated work areas
- Comfortable working in a moderate-noise industrial environment
Preferred Skills
- Subassembly experience in an automotive or automation environment
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work from written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions
- Familiarity with continuous improvement and quality systems
