Job Title:
Software Quality Assurance Engineer (Defense, Aerospace)
Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 3 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is with a major defense contractor and requires candidates to have an Active Secret (or higher) Security Clearance. As long as you have held a clearance within the past 2 years, you will qualify for this role.
Additional requirements:
- US Citizenship is required; Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) are not eligible due to clearance eligibility rules. Candidates on CPT, OPT, H-1B, or TN visas are not eligible.
- This company is not open to corp-to-corp (C2C) or corp-to-hire (C2H) arrangements.
- Offers may be contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screen (including testing for cannabis).
Job Location:
Torrance, CA (on-site role)
Compensation:
$80.00/hr to $100.00/hr (depending on experience). Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate for any hours worked over 40 per week.

- This role will have 7 paid holidays and 10 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.
Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a leading provider of secure, mission-critical technologies for aerospace and defense. We are seeking a Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) for our facility in Torrance, CA. This role is responsible for participating throughout the software design lifecycle, contributing to design reviews, test witnessing, problem reporting, and compliance audits. This role works closely with software engineering teams to ensure that projects meet contractual requirements and quality assurance standards, with particular focus on compliance to AS9100, CMMI ML 3, DO-178, and DO-254 standards.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the software design process, providing recommendations for product changes and continuous improvement.
- Generate program-specific software quality assurance (SQA) plans, checklists, and reports.
- Support the development and enhancement of software quality processes, ensuring alignment with AS9100, CMMI, DO-178, and DO-254 standards.
- Review software-related documents such as Software Development Plans, Software Requirements Specifications, and Software Design Documents, as well as test plans and procedures.
- Validate functional requirements through peer reviews of software code and participate in software code peer reviews.
- Witness software testing and document results in SQA test reports pertaining to qualification testing.
- Participate in the software change control board, including verification and closure of software problem reports.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with project/program requirements, identify areas for improvement, and help mitigate risks.
- Participate in Functional Configuration Audits (FCA), Stages of Involvement (SOI), and compliance audits for key industry standards.
- Manage build and baseline releases of software products.
- Present on software quality assurance topics at customer or stakeholder meetings.
- Collect, manage, and update SQA metrics.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for team-oriented environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with word-processing and database applications, including MS Office.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage multiple projects.
Preferred:
- Experience with compliance requirements including:
- CMMI – Maturity Level 3
- AS9100 – Quality Management System
- AS9115 – Quality Management Systems – Deliverable Software
- DO-178 – Software Considerations for Airborne Systems
- DO-254 – Hardware Considerations for Airborne Systems (firmware)
- Experience with tools such as Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence.
- Familiarity with Unix or Linux-based systems is a plus.
- Understanding of coding languages.
- Experience certifying systems to DO-178/DO-254 is a plus.
- Experience with system safety requirements is desirable.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- This is a 1st (day) shift position following a 9/80 schedule. Employees typically work nine-hour days from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (including a one-hour lunch) Monday through Thursday, and a six-hour day on alternating Fridays. Every other Friday is a scheduled day off. There may be occasional overtime which would be compensated at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.
- This will be an on site role (no hybrid / remote work).
