CNC Machinist


Location: Farmington, MI

Pay Range: $22.21 – $31.08/hour

Employment Type: Long-Term Contract


Schedule: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM


Position Summary


The CNC Machinist I supports the production of low-volume and one-of-a-kind precision parts using a variety of materials and machining processes. This role works closely with customers and internal teams to support projects from initial concept through final delivery.

The CNC Machinist I will utilize CNC machining, manual machining, inspection techniques, and advanced manufacturing software to produce high-quality components while supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving efforts throughout the manufacturing process.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop wireframe and solid models, modify imported models, and edit post processors using Tebis, WorkNC, or Mastercam software.
  • Operate CNC machines, mills, and lathes to produce precision components through multiple machining operations.
  • Load materials, apply fixturing, and select appropriate tooling for machining operations.
  • Perform setup, machining, finishing, and inspection of parts using CNC equipment, manual tools, and measurement equipment.
  • Machine fixtures and jigs to support production processes.
  • Support multi-phase CNC machining projects, including troubleshooting, design modifications, and issue resolution.
  • Perform manual finishing and joining operations using hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Maintain machinery, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Identify material and supply needs and submit restocking requests.


Required Qualifications


Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of CNC machining and manual machining experience.
  • Experience with 3-axis milling operations.


Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of shop equipment including:
  • Bandsaws
  • Sanders
  • Drill presses
  • Inspection equipment
  • Proficiency with Tebis, WorkNC, or Mastercam software.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret detailed 3D part drawings.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications and manage electronic files.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with teams.


Preferred Qualifications


Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience using industry-standard manufacturing software such as:
  • Tebis
  • Mastercam
  • WorkNC
  • CATIA
  • AutoCAD
  • Experience with polymer or metal model making.
  • Experience with 5-axis milling operations.


Additional Technical Skills

  • Ability to edit G & M code using machine controllers.
  • Knowledge of manual machining processes, including:
  • Internal (ID), outer diameter (OD), and surface grinding
  • Rotary grinding
  • Honing
  • Lapping
  • Milling
  • Lathe operations
  • Experience with:
  • Model making
  • Mold making
  • Metal fabrication
  • Composite materials
  • Ability to learn and utilize 3D scanning methods for quality inspection.
  • Ability to obtain ITAR certification.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
