We’re adding a senior-level Business Central ERP Developer to our internal IT team during a period of rapid growth and operational transformation. This is a newly created role within a long-established, family-owned organization that continues to invest heavily in its systems and internal capabilities.
This is not a consulting or partner role. This position serves as the internal owner of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment, with direct responsibility for both hands-on development and the ongoing evolution of the ERP platform in close partnership with the business.
Role Snapshot
- Internal technical owner of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Hands-on AL development with a strong focus on business process understanding
- Deep involvement in reviewing, improving, and shaping operational workflows
- Directing and overseeing outsourced or partner development when needed
- Strong preference for standard functionality and scalable design over unnecessary customization
- Initial onsite onboarding required, with long-term remote flexibility
What You’ll Do
- Own the day-to-day technical health, design, and evolution of the Business Central environment
- Design, develop, and maintain solutions in Business Central using AL and modern, extension-based practices
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand end-to-end processes across operations, fulfillment, finance, and supply chain
- Evaluate requirements and determine when to leverage standard Business Central functionality, configuration, process change, or custom development
- Perform hands-on coding while also serving as the internal authority on ERP design decisions
- Support and enhance integrations between Business Central and third-party platforms, including shipping, payment processing, EDI, document management, and treasury/cash management systems
- Provide technical direction and oversight for outsourced or partner-led development, including reviewing code, designs, and deliverables
- Reduce long-term reliance on external partners by building and maintaining internal ERP expertise
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex ERP issues with a focus on long-term stability and scalability
- Contribute to documentation, standards, and best practices across the ERP environment
- Collaborate closely with a small internal IT team spanning systems, BI, project management, and development
What This Role Is (and Is Not)
- This role is well suited for someone who enjoys being hands-on in the code while also engaging deeply with business processes and operational realities. It is designed for someone who values ownership, accountability, and long-term impact within a single organization.
- This role is not intended for someone seeking a formal people-management position or a narrowly scoped, heads-down development role with minimal business interaction.
Work Model
- Initial onsite presence in Knoxville is required for onboarding and immersion in the business (approximately the first three months)
- Long-term remote flexibility after onboarding
- Occasional onsite travel may be required based on project needs
What We’re Looking For
- Strong hands-on experience developing in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or NAV, with modern Business Central experience
- Proficiency with AL and extension-based development
- Demonstrated ability to understand and work through complex business processes within an ERP environment
- Experience supporting or integrating Business Central with third-party systems such as shipping solutions, payment platforms, EDI, document management, or treasury systems
- Comfort operating as the internal owner of an ERP system rather than in a consulting capacity
- Ability to balance speed, stability, and long-term maintainability in a fast-paced environment
- Self-directed, dependable, and focused on building durable internal solutions
