Job Title: Principal Sales Engineer

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Work-mode: Remote (UK-based) with regular travel to client sites

Location: United Kingdom

Salary: £125,000 – £155,000 gross per annum + 20% bonus + car allowance + extensive benefits package

Clearance Requirement: Developed Vetting (DV) – required

Candidates with current SC clearance will be considered only in exceptional cases and must be eligible and willing to undergo full DV clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery sessions and provide end-to-end presales support throughout the full sales cycle
  • Design, deliver, and present high-impact product demonstrations and proof-of-concept solutions
  • Translate complex technical requirements into compelling business and commercial value propositions
  • Build trusted relationships with public sector stakeholders, system integrators, and service providers
  • Collaborate with internal teams to tailor technical solutions aligned with customer requirements and compliance frameworks
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to influence roadmaps and communicate market feedback
  • Support RFP/RFI processes, technical documentation, and whitepaper creation
  • Mentor and guide Sales Engineers across the region, supporting their client interactions and development
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and customer workshops
  • Advocate for customers internally, ensuring solutions are aligned with their evolving technical and strategic needs


Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in IT, with at least 10 years in presales, network engineering, or technical support
  • Proven experience supporting UK Government or Public Sector clients within secure environments

Deep technical expertise across:

  • Cisco routing, switching, gateways, and applications
  • TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow, VoIP, LAN/WAN topologies (MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM)
  • Security concepts and network infrastructure design
  • Network performance and alert/fault management tools

Strong knowledge of:

  • Operating systems (Linux, Windows)
  • Cloud and virtualisation technologies (SDN/NFV, Public/Private Cloud)
  • Performance tools (HP/OV, Tivoli, EMC SMARTS, ArcSight)
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE preferred
  • Formal presales training (Sandler, Siebel, Afterburner) desirable
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Willingness to travel across the UK (up to 60–70%)


Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical background
  • MBA or relevant business/leadership qualification
  • Familiarity with solutions such as Arbor, Radware, Riverbed, A10, ExtraHop
  • Experience authoring whitepapers and contributing to product strategy
  • Knowledge of security audits and RFP/RFI processes
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop technical presales teams
