City + Capital are currently representing a fast-growing specialist finance lender who are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to support their continued expansion across Manchester and the North of England.
Our client is active across the short-term property finance and alternative lending markets, providing flexible funding solutions to property investors, developers, SMEs and introducers. This appointment forms part of a wider growth plan, with the business looking to increase its UK business development presence and build a stronger regional footprint.
The Company
Our client is a UK-based fintech and alternative finance business providing working capital and short-term lending solutions to SMEs, property investors and developers.
The business is active across a broad range of specialist lending products, including bridging finance, auction finance, refurbishment and conversion loans, residential investment property, semi-commercial and mixed-use assets, commercial property and SME/business-backed facilities.
The firm is able to compete strongly in the market through a combination of competitive pricing, speed, flexibility and a relationship-led approach to service. They are often able to provide a more personal and responsive experience than larger lenders, making them a strong option for brokers and borrowers looking for direct access, sensible appetite and high-quality execution.
This is a smaller, family-feel environment where the successful individual will have genuine visibility, influence and accountability. The business currently has one UK BDM and is now looking to grow towards a team of three, creating a strong opportunity for someone to join at an important stage of expansion.
Role Overview
This role will focus on originating new lending opportunities across Manchester and the North of England, with a strong emphasis on building broker, introducer and property professional relationships.
The successful candidate will be responsible for proactive business development, market engagement and deal origination across the region. This is not a role focused purely on handling inbound enquiries. Instead, our client is looking for someone who can genuinely create the game, build relationships and deliver lending opportunities that align with the firm’s appetite.
You will be expected to represent the business professionally in the market, build a strong introducer base and identify lending opportunities across bridging, refurbishment, residential investment, semi-commercial, mixed-use, commercial property and SME-backed facilities.
Typical debt sizes are expected to sit around c£500k to £2m, with the business able to support a range of straightforward and more complex lending scenarios.
Responsibilities
· Originate new lending opportunities across Manchester, the North West and wider Northern market.
· Build, manage and grow relationships with brokers, introducers, property professionals and key regional contacts.
· Develop new business through proactive outreach, networking, meetings and relationship-led activity.
· Support lending across bridging, auction finance, refurbishment, residential investment, semi-commercial, mixed-use, commercial property and SME/business-backed facilities.
· Identify good-quality lending opportunities that fit the firm’s appetite, pricing and service proposition.
· Work closely with internal stakeholders to help progress opportunities from enquiry through to completion.
· Represent the business at meetings, events and in the wider broker market.
· Help increase brand presence and market awareness across the North.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in specialist lending, bridging finance, property finance or alternative finance, with a proven ability to originate business and build relationships across a regional broker market.
You will be highly proactive, hard-working and relationship-driven, with the personality and commercial awareness to thrive in a smaller, entrepreneurial lending environment.
Our client is particularly interested in candidates from smaller lenders or businesses with a similar style, appetite and operating model. This is likely to suit someone who enjoys being close to the deal, close to the client and visible within the business, rather than someone looking for a heavily structured large-bank environment.
· Minimum 3 years’ experience in a BDM, origination or relationship-led lending role.
· Strong understanding of bridging, refurbishment, property investment and/or commercial property lending.
· Proven ability to generate new lending opportunities through brokers and introducers.
· Strong broker and introducer relationships across Manchester, the North West or wider North of England.
· Commercially aware, credible and able to assess whether an opportunity fits appetite at an early stage.
· Strong communication, presentation and relationship management skills.
· Hard-working, personable and comfortable operating in a smaller, family-feel company.
· Target-driven with a demonstrable track record of delivering lending or origination objectives.
· Ideally experienced within a specialist lender, bridging lender, alternative finance provider or similar entrepreneurial lending environment.
On Offer
Our client is ideally looking to offer a basic salary in the region of £70k - £75k, depending on experience. Higher offers may be considered for exceptional individuals.
This is a genuine growth opportunity with a lender looking to expand its UK business development team and strengthen its regional market coverage. For the right person, this offers the chance to take ownership of the Northern market and become an important part of the firm’s wider growth journey.
Benefits are expected to be in line with a smaller company environment and can be discussed in more detail during the process.
Next Steps
There is a reasonable amount of urgency to fill this position in line with our client’s growth objectives.
Due to the nature of the role and opportunity, we do not expect it to be on the market for long.
