City + Capital are currently representing a growing development and bridging finance lender who have retained our services to appoint an experienced & proactive Portfolio Manager to their business at an exciting time in their trajectory.

Our client provides development finance, bridging loans and mezzanine debt to support high-quality residential and mixed-use projects.   


They expertly serve small to mid-sized developers building residential and mixed-use schemes across the UK. Their ability to structure flexible deals and move at pace, has established them as a trusted partner for developers seeking fast access to capital in time-sensitive environments.  


Since their launch, our client has experienced remarkable growth, securing their position as a disruptive force in the alternative lending space and consistently expanding their loan book year-on-year with ambitious plans for continued scaling.  


This trajectory has created an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Portfolio Manager to join a fast-growing, entrepreneurial team where they can directly influence strategic direction.   


Role Overview   


As Portfolio Manager, your primary responsibility will be to take ownership of our client’s non-performing loans portfolio, assessing the health of the loan book whilst ensuring legal, internal and regulatory standards. To achieve this, you will actively monitor the progression and performance of loans throughout their lifecycle in the loan book.  


You will understand & focus on the key areas of funding that present the most opportunity and risk, engaging or mitigating wherever required.  Throughout you will be the key point of contact for developers and other borrowers with debt under management. You will handle loan queries or concerns as well as supporting aspects such as loan restructuring or refinancing. 

  

You will collaborate throughout with our client’s sales and credit teams to balance relationships and success and to take a joined-up approach to client satisfaction & retention.   


Responsibilities   


  • Monitor and manage the non-performing loans (NPL) portfolio, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards  
  • Analyse credit risks and assess the causes and impact of loan defaults  
  • Develop and implement recovery strategies including restructuring, negotiation, or legal action  
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to determine repayment capability and recovery options  
  • Prepare regular portfolio reports for senior management  
  • Collaborate with origination and legal teams to implement clear restructuring strategies  
  • Utilise credit risk management tools and data to improve decision-making  
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues to enhance credit risk understanding  
  • Lead recovery and restructuring negotiations with distressed borrowers  
  • Contribute to policy development around managing NPLs and recoveries  


Candidate Requirements   


The ideal individual for this role should be an experienced Portfolio Manager from the development finance, bridging or mezzanine sectors and will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of supporting non-performing loans and achieving positive outcomes.  


You will demonstrate an excellent blend of portfolio & client oversight, risk management, financial analysis, loan strategy development, credit stewardship and relationship management experience and will be confident in handling property developers and investors directly.   


You will combine your technical portfolio management skills with a proactive approach to activity, quick to address opportunities or problems, with a view to finding solutions. You will enjoy working with a team and collaborating and will be a confident communicator in all aspects.  

 

  • Proven experience managing non-performing or distressed loans within development finance or private equity   
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, restructuring, and recovery frameworks   
  • Commercially astute with strong communication and negotiation skills   
  • Excellent analytical ability and financial modelling capability   
  • Sound knowledge of insolvency processes, regulation, and financial law   
  • Ethical, disciplined, and solutions-driven  

 

On Offer   


Our client is looking to pay up to c£120k as a basic salary for the ideal individual, relevant to experience. Higher offers could be considered for exceptional direct experience in this role.   

Salary will be complemented by access to a favourable bonus scheme too, which will drive significant annual earnings based on performance.

This is a highly collaborative work set up, so you would expect to split your working week between client visits, home and the London office.
