Internal Controls Manager

This is a hybrid role with expectation of working in one of our UK offices 2-3 days per week (Kidlington, Jarrow or Chichester).


The Internal Controls Manager is a key role involving regular interaction with the Group Executive Committee and members of the board, through the Audit and Risk Committee. The role will focus on the implementation and maintenance of key elements of the UK Governance Code as well as strengthening the internal control environment, developing and enforcing the group framework and standard for controls, and monitoring of compliance against the Company’s control standards.



Responsibilities:

 

  •  Advise and support the business in implementing appropriate controls, governance and risk management processes.
  • Work closely with the central and regional finance teams, and other key functional stakeholders, to develop/revise, implement and maintain the Company’s framework of internal control to ensure the effective and efficient operation of business processes and manage the Company’s risks.   
  • Act as project manager and lead the process to validate the operational effectiveness of risk management and internal control (including material controls and the wider control environment) on an ongoing basis and to meet the requirements of the UK Governance Code in relation to the Board’s statement. 
  • Support the Company's Risk Assurance function in providing objective assurance to the Audit & Risk Committee on the effectiveness of the system of risk management and internal control. Support the achievement of the Company’s objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes as well as providing consulting advice designed to add value and improve operations. 
  • Build relationships with leaders across the Company to understand issues and provide advice on internal controls.
  • Update and maintain the control framework for the respective regions and functions with any system and process modifications and changes. 
  • Follow-up of outstanding management actions and monthly reporting on this for senior management and Board.
  • Produce Board, Audit & Risk Committee and General Executive Committee papers as required.


Skills and Experience:


  • Qualified accountant or internal controls professional (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA or equivalent) 
  • Excellent eye for detail and exceptional level of accuracy in reporting. 
  • Strong planning and organisational skills to drive the delivery of projects and other initiatives.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient excel skills.
  • Good influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Significant experience in data analysis and report writing.
  • Can demonstrate they have a sense of urgency when delivering projects.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing businesses.
  • Flexible team player who is open to change and has a passion for efficiency. 
  • Previous experience working with senior management 
  • Previous experience with a listed UK company. 
  • Prior experience working with Microsoft D365 (desirable)
