The Site Technical Director is the key point of contact between the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) and a National Laboratory, responsible for identifying and transitioning new technologies to meet top Air Force priorities. This role builds relationships with researchers, businesses, and military leaders, guiding projects from inception to successful real-world implementation. Additionally, the Director leads a team, provides expert advice in acquisition and program management, and ensures technology solutions align with Department of Defense requirements.


Main Duties:

  • Identify promising lab technologies and connect them with AFGSC needs.
  • Work with lab staff and the Lab Technology Transition Office to guide projects.
  • Lead a team, sometimes spread across locations.
  • Partner with small businesses and defense contractors to develop technology plans.
  • Represent and advise AFGSC at the lab, connect with businesses, and help guide programs.
  • Provide expert advice in technology transition topics.
  • Areas of Support: Artificial intelligence, hypersonics, communications, navigation, AR/VR/XR, security, manufacturing, batteries, digital twin models, biofuels, cybersecurity, quantum tech, EMP hardening, directed energy, counter-drone, clean energy, human performance, robotics.


Ideal Candidate:

  • Has a master’s in engineering or science.
  • 10+ years experience in acquisition, testing, or engineering.
  • 2+ years on HQ staff.
  • Understands Air Force Global Strike Command and defense acquisition.
  • Proven people and project management skills.
  • Works well with many teams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of programs like SBIR/STTR and defense acquisition rules.
  • Supervision: Will manage a team, especially as programs grow.


Reports to:

  •  LCIT Director.


Location: 

  • Near the assigned National Laboratory or willing to relocate (hybrid work).


Travel: 

  • Up to 45 days/year for meetings and conferences.


Security: 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for top security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Project Management (PMP), Defense Acquisition (DAWIA), military or weapons systems experience.


Relevant skills/experiences: 

  • Leadership, engineering, team building, industry experience, program/project management, market analysis, test/evaluation, contracting, and working with government regulations.
