AI Engineer – Target Discovery for Aging & Cancer
Location: Remote or Japan (Relocation Support Available)
Engagement: Full-time or Part-time (Founding-level Stock Options Possible)
About the Company
We are an early-stage biotechnology company based in Japan, fully funded by a founder and CEO who is a serial entrepreneur who has successfully built and exited multiple companies, including one of the fastest IPOs in Tokyo Stock Exchange history. While his background is in finance and media, his driving passion is now human healthspan extension and anti-aging science.
Our company focuses on translating cutting-edge biological insights into tangible therapies. We have already secured exclusive IP from leading academic partners, generated in vivo efficacy data for multiple therapeutic programs, and assembled a multidisciplinary team including domain experts in liver biology, AI bioinformatics, and drug delivery. Our infrastructure includes access to animal facilities, CRO partners, and a flexible R&D budget to accelerate discovery.
Mission of This Role
You will be the lead architect of an AI-powered discovery platform to identify membrane surface proteins associated with pathological aging and cancer cells. This work will directly support therapeutic target selection for our CSO and scientific team, forming the foundation for our next generation of anti-aging interventions.
Our team already holds a rich single-cell RNA sequencing dataset from multiple organs and chronic disease states, with each cell annotated for p16 (senescence marker) status. Combined with gene expression profiles (identity markers + disease-related genes), this enables:
- Cross-tissue comparison of senescent vs. non-senescent cells
- Mapping senescence signatures across organs
- Identifying novel, cell-type–specific therapeutic targets
Core Responsibilities
- Design and implement AI/ML models for large-scale, multi-modal biological datasets (gene expression, spatial transcriptomics, imaging).
- Identify, rank, and visualize candidate membrane proteins as therapeutic targets.
- Develop interactive dashboards for researchers to explore target landscapes and spatial aging maps.
- Collaborate closely with the CSO, bioinformatics experts, and disease-area scientists to validate findings.
- Ensure reproducibility and interpretability of models for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
-
AI/ML Engineering Expertise – Multi-modal data integration, classification/clustering, biomarker feature selection, model explainability (e.g., SHAP, LIME).
-
Data Engineering – Scalable pipelines for high-dimensional omics/imaging datasets; distributed computing; heterogeneous database integration.
-
Visualization – Interactive visualization frameworks (Plotly Dash, Streamlit) for complex biological data.
- Proficiency in Python and major ML libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow).
Bonus / Preferred
- Experience with AI in biological contexts (protein structure prediction, scRNA-seq analysis, drug target identification).
- Familiarity with biological ontologies (UniProt, Cell Surface Protein Atlas) and tools such as Scanpy or Seurat.
- Knowledge of LNP delivery systems or molecular biology workflows.
