Founded in 1858, Walterboro First Baptist Church has a rich history of sharing the gospel in Colleton County and beyond, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The church has seen consistent growth, with average weekly attendance rising to approximately 200 in the past year, up from 159 the previous year. This growth includes an exciting influx of young families and children, alongside a strong base of older members who cherish the church's history and traditions.
The church's mission is to proclaim the Gospel and multiply disciples, with a vision focused on enjoying God’s presence and fostering a community dedicated to His purposes. Its six-year strategic plan prioritizes prayer, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, missions, and worship, aiming to become increasingly outward-focused while remaining firmly grounded in God’s Word.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Family Pastor is responsible for developing, cultivating, and implementing ministry programs for children, youth, and their families. This includes recruiting and training volunteers, teaching and discipling families, and overseeing engaging, Christ-centered programs for children and youth, with a primary focus on youth ministry. They will also oversee small group activities, plan special events like mission trips and Vacation Bible School, supervise the WEE preschool program, serve as the church's Child Protection Officer, and manage the annual budget for family ministry. Additionally, the Family Pastor will occasionally preach and collaborate with church staff and lay leaders on major projects.
