Apply for this job

Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with Destin Methodist Church in Destin, Florida as they search for their next Executive Director of Operations (EDO). Destin Methodist is a Global Methodist congregation committed to helping people meet Jesus, engage in life-giving community, discover their gifts, and use them for God’s glory. With traditional and contemporary worship, a distinctive year-round Beach Worship ministry, strong student and community outreach, and a heart for discipleship, the church seeks to worship passionately, love extravagantly, witness boldly, and grow intentionally.

Destin Methodist is entering a season in which its ministry reach and organizational complexity have grown beyond what its current leadership structure can sustainably support. The EDO will strengthen the operational and staff leadership of the church, bringing greater clarity, accountability, coordination, and leadership development while freeing Lead Pastor Allen Newton to focus more fully on vision, preaching, pastoral leadership, and ministry. Success will mean a healthier, better-aligned staff team equipped with clear roles, effective systems, strong communication, and the support needed to accomplish the church’s mission.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A spiritually mature, relational leader who is aligned with Wesleyan theology and the doctrine and mission of the Global Methodist Church.
  • A proven developer of people who can coach, encourage, challenge, and equip staff and ministry leaders rather than simply manage tasks.
  • A strong organizational leader who brings clarity to roles, reporting relationships, priorities, policies, and measurable expectations.
  • A collaborative leader who can partner effectively with the Lead Pastor, staff, SPRC, HELM, and other lay leadership while respecting appropriate governance boundaries.
  • A confident communicator and healthy conflict manager who can address difficult issues directly, graciously, and constructively while building trust across the organization.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The EDO serves as the church’s chief administrative executive, providing leadership for the people, systems, finances, facilities, and operational infrastructure that enable Destin Methodist Church to accomplish its mission.

The EDO serves as the Senior Pastor’s chief ministry partner and administrative leader, carrying delegated authority to implement the Senior Pastor’s vision while ensuring the ministries, staff, systems, and resources of the church work together effectively. The EDO is accountable to and serves under the leadership of the Senior Pastor while providing executive leadership for all non-appointed personnel and serving as the Staff-Parish Relations Committee’s(SPRC) primary management representative for personnel oversight and organizational health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and strengthen the church’s day-to-day staff and ministry operations in alignment with the Lead Pastor’s vision and the church’s mission.
  • Clarify staff roles, reporting relationships, decision-making authority, job descriptions, priorities, and measurable expectations.
  • Coach, mentor, encourage, and develop staff members, helping ministry leaders grow in leadership effectiveness and personal ownership.
  • Establish consistent rhythms for staff communication, supervision, feedback, evaluation, and follow-through.
  • Translate approved church policies and leadership decisions into clear, accountable operational practices.
  • Coordinate ministries and administrative functions to reduce gaps, duplication, confusion, and unnecessary organizational friction.
  • Strengthen volunteer-development systems that help ministry leaders recruit, equip, organize, and retain healthy teams.
  • Address staff conflict and performance concerns promptly, pastorally, and constructively while fostering a culture of trust and accountability.
  • Partner with the Lead Pastor and elected leadership to improve strategic planning, resource alignment, organizational structure, and ministry execution.
  • Help create scalable systems that support continued discipleship, outreach, community engagement, and future ministry growth.
