Carson City, NV
Apply for this job

Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with The Dwelling Church in Carson City, NV, as they search for their next Worship and Outreach Pastor. The Dwelling Church is a young and growing church plant in Carson City, Nevada, with a heart to see lives transformed by the gospel and the community renewed by God’s presence. Launched by Hope Church (Reno, NV) and led by Pastors Michael and Denise, The Dwelling is deeply committed to faithful biblical teaching, authentic relationships, and Spirit-led worship that creates space for people to truly encounter God. The church has a down-to-earth atmosphere that resonates with the Carson City community.

The Dwelling is known for its relational warmth, theological depth, and commitment to serving others through volunteer involvement and community outreach. With a high view of Scripture, a value for women in leadership, and a posture of collaboration with other local churches, The Dwelling seeks to be a lasting, missional presence in Carson City—one that nurtures spiritual growth, discipleship, and genuine transformation.

The church is looking for a high-functioning, humble leader with a heart for discipleship and a passion for building community to join their team. This pastor will shepherd the Worship and Creative Arts team, develop vibrant Christ-centered relationships within the church to encourage service opportunities, and help coordinate outreach efforts that engage the community and draw people into the life of the church. They are a steady presence both on Sundays and throughout the week.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Natural Connector: Whether leading worship or coordinating outreach, the ideal candidate naturally brings people together—helping others feel seen, known, and connected to the church’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Collaborative Leader: Someone who values teamwork and delegation—able to guide, equip, and release volunteers to serve confidently in their areas of gifting.
  • Anchored in Conviction, Open in Method: Adaptable to the dynamic nature of a young and growing church, yet grounded in biblical convictions and the established values of The Dwelling.
  • A Shepherd over an Artist: While musical skill/excellence is important, the true priority is a shepherd’s heart—someone who cares deeply for people and uses worship as a means of ministry, not performance.
  • A Go Getter & Self-starter: Someone who sees what needs to be done and acts—resourceful, dependable, and motivated to build and strengthen ministry areas from the ground up.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Worship Director at The Dwelling Church should be an energetic, team player who is creative, a self-starter, organized, faithful, and fun. This individual needs to be adaptable, prioritizing heart over musical skill, and open to charismatic expression without making it a central issue. They must also be egalitarian or at least not anti-egalitarian. Key responsibilities include engaging young families through community events and growing the worship team.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a small, word-of-mouth community, understanding its unique culture. They should embody humility and a missionary mentality, caring about discipleship. The church is open to divorced, single, and diverse candidates, with a preference for experience. Dealbreakers include being overtly political on social media, using marijuana, having face tattoos, or adhering to dispensational theology.
