The Client

The client is passionate about creating unforgettable gourmet cookie experiences for their customers across the country. From handcrafted gift boxes to seasonal collections and corporate gifting, they're committed to delivering premium products backed by exceptional customer experiences. As their e-commerce business continues to grow, they're looking for a data-driven Paid Ads Manager to help scale revenue through strategic, performance-focused advertising campaigns.

The Role

The client is currently spending roughly $800K+ a year on paid advertising. They run a lean marketing operation: one in-house creative lead, a website manager, and a third-party development team handling their Shopify platform. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role reporting directly to ownership. The person in this seat owns Google and Microsoft paid search end-to-end and is measured on making the existing ad spend materially more efficient.

What Success Looks Like—Measurable Targets

  • Improve blended ROAS on Google/Microsoft paid search and shopping campaigns against a baseline set in the first 60 days, with a specific quarterly target agreed with ownership.
  • Reduce paid advertising's share of total revenue from its current level (currently running near a quarter of revenue) toward a defined target over the first 12 months, without sacrificing revenue growth.
  • Bring blended CPA/CAC down quarter over quarter, tracked against GA4 conversion data.

Responsibilities

  • Own and optimize paid search campaigns on Google Ads and Microsoft Ads (Bing)—Search, Shopping, Dynamic Search Ads, and remarketing.
  • Manage the product feed through Google Merchant Center and Microsoft Merchant Center.
  • Conduct keyword research, search query analysis, and competitive research to keep spending focused on efficient, high-intent terms.
  • Manage budget allocation directly.
  • Collaborate with the in-house creative lead on ad copy and creative assets; write and test ad copy directly.
  • Run structured A/B tests across copy, audiences, bidding strategies, and landing pages.
  • Identify landing page and conversion issues and submit clear, prioritized change requests through the website manager to the development team—this role identifies and specifies the fix, not builds it directly.
  • Maintain accurate conversion tracking and e-commerce event implementation in GA4 and Google Tag Manager within the Shopify environment.
  • Deliver a concise, recurring performance report tied directly to the ROAS/CAC/spend-ratio targets above.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years managing paid search budgets for an e-commerce or DTC brand, ideally consumer products.
  • Advanced, hands-on experience with Google Ads, Google Shopping, Microsoft Ads, and Google Merchant Center.
  • Working knowledge of Shopify—comfortable understanding how tracking, conversion events, and the product feed function within a Shopify store, even without hands-on theme development experience.
  • A track record you can point to of measurably improving ROAS or lowering CAC.
  • Comfortable with GA4, Google Tag Manager, and translating data into specific budget and bidding decisions.
  • Strong ad copywriting and clear, concise reporting.
  • Comfortable working with lean creative and dev resources—this role coordinates through a small internal team and an outsourced development partner rather than commanding a large in-house department and needs to communicate change requests clearly enough for others to execute them.

Nice to Have, Not Required

  • Feed optimization tooling, Looker Studio, or similar reporting.
  • Meta, YouTube, or other paid social experience—useful context, but not part of the core scope.
  • Google Ads certifications.
