Compensation: $50,000 to $75,000 Annually + Benefits

The Mission (aka The Role)

As our People Operations Specialist, you’ll ensure smooth, efficient, and compliant HR operations across the company. You’ll support employees and leaders, maintain accurate HR data, coordinate onboarding and offboarding, and keep our people processes running like clockwork.


This role requires exceptional confidentiality, initiative, organization, and communication—perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, autonomous, remote-first environment.


The candidate may be based in any of the following US states: AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI.


Mission Objectives (Essential Functions)

  • Employee and Leadership Support
  • Serve as first-line support for employee questions and concerns.
  • Triage employee relations issues and escalate appropriately to the HR Director.
  • Operations and Process Ownership
  • Own and improve day-to-day people processes.
  • Build scalable workflows, checklists, and SOPs.
  • Ensure a smooth onboarding and offboarding experience for all employees.
  • HRIS and Data Management
  • Act as HRIS system administrator, ensuring clean data and access controls.
  • Manage employee records and changes (promotions, terminations, and transfers).
  • Maintain HR documentation standards (forms, templates, and recordkeeping).
  • Partner with payroll to ensure accuracy in pay, deductions, and leave tracking.
  • Performance Management Support
  • Maintain performance management tools and workflows.
  • Support the creation and implementation of performance improvement plans.
  • Benefits Administration
  • Act as the benefit administration system administrator.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for benefits brokers and vendors.
  • Manage annual open enrollment administrative process.
  • Process new hire and qualifying life event benefit elections.
  • Reconcile carrier invoices and premiums.
  • Administer parental leave and federal/state leave programs (FMLA + state leave).
  • Policies and Compliance
  • Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and employment laws (multi-state).
  • Escalate complex leave and compliance cases to the HR Director.
  • Ensure record retention compliance and audit readiness.


Your Space Suit Specs (Requirements and Qualifications)

  • 3–5 years of hands-on professional experience across core HR functions; experience in people operations and working in a startup or high-growth environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to context switch quickly and manage high-volume workflows without dropping details.
  • Experience implementing and managing an HRIS.
  • Working knowledge of labor and employment law fundamentals (multi-state exposure a plus).
  • High level of confidentiality, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong reporting and presentation skills.
  • Experience with project management tools (Monday.com a plus).
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to thrive in an autonomous, remote-first environment.
  • Curiosity and a drive to innovate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • Strong understanding of digital channels.
  • Formal education is not required—skill, creativity, and initiative are what matter most.
