The Opportunity

As an experienced Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow the engineering department. In this key leadership position, you will play an integral part in leading major projects, driving operational efficiency and helping build stronger client relationships. With your experience in project management and process improvement you will be able to successfully scale the department and ensure the delivery of high impact solutions to multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop a growing team of engineers and drafters, creating a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Develop and enhance engineering processes for operational efficiency and ensuring alignment with fabrication and machining departments. 
  • Provide guidance on fabrication, machining and steel structure projects.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices and processes.

 Project Management & Process Improvement

  • Lead and oversee complex manufacturing projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery, high quality standards and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Apply project management best practices, including scope definition, risk assessment, resource allocation, and scheduling, to ensure successful execution of engineering projects.
  • Work cross-functionally with fabrication, machining and leadership teams to drive operational improvements.
  • Develop and implement engineering processes, procedures and quality control systems to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

 Client & Business Development

  • Act as a technical liaison for clients, ensuring projects align with their specifications and industry standards.
  • Establish and maintain client relationships, identifying opportunities to expand engineering services.
  • Participate in business development opportunities, including representing Goodman Steel at industry events like SIMSA.
  • Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, and best practices, applying this knowledge to continually improve production efficiency.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical or structural preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation from APEGS or another province.
  • 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in a leadership role within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring others.
  • Project management experience and business planning for small tactical projects and/or large strategic projects.
  • Technical expertise in manufacturing processes, machining and steel fabrication.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams to deliver high-performance results.
  • Proficient in leading cross-functional teams and managing projects with tight deadlines.
  • Additional certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or PMP are highly desirable.
