The Opportunity

Denison is advancing mining differently through innovation, environmental responsibility, and a long-term commitment to doing things the right way. As the company moves toward the next chapter of the Wheeler River Project, the need for strong technical leadership has never been greater.

As Denison’s Senior/Principal Mine Engineer, you will be a key technical voice shaping how this project is engineered, evaluated, and optimized. Reporting to the Director, Technical Services, you will help guide decisions that influence everything from mine design and production planning to ventilation, fleet selection, excavation design, and long-term development strategy.

This role goes far beyond producing mine plans. You’ll apply your underground mining expertise to validate economic assumptions, challenge design concepts, and strengthen feasibility outcomes. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners, supporting the technical backbone of permitting, evaluation, and data acquisition programs.

With occasional travel to the Athabasca Basin, you’ll stay connected to the realities on the ground, ensuring designs are not only technically sound, but practical, safe, and execution-ready.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior/Principal Mine Engineer, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Mine Planning & Design Leadership

• Lead strategic and tactical mine planning activities.
• Develop production schedules and life-of-mine planning strategies.
• Support reserve estimation for mining resources using various mining methods.
• Contribute to preliminary, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and strategic assessments.

2. Technical Evaluation & Economic Analysis

• Prepare capital and operating cost estimates and support budgeting activities.
• Prepare economic models to evaluate mining scenarios and project economics.
• Develop operations production plans and forecasts.
• Write and review technical engineering reports (NI 43-101 or equivalent).

3. Engineering Optimization & Operational Readiness

• Support mining equipment selection and fleet strategy.
• Contribute to mine design optimization across shaft sinking, excavation design, ventilation, and production ramp-up planning.
• Support cemented rockfill and paste backfill studies.
• Undertake regular site visits to ensure execution aligns with engineering plans.

4. Contractor Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Manage contractors and sub-consultants as required.
• Liaise with external consultants and contractors to support technical studies and deliverables.
• Collaborate with internal departments including Environment, Safety, Operations, HR, Accounting, Procurement, Investor Relations, and other functional groups.

5. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Assist in the development of SOPs and JHA procedures.
• Support Denison’s health, safety, and environmental procedures, policies, and culture.
• Demonstrate leadership in safety and environmental responsibility across all workstreams.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

• Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant underground mining experience.
• Current registration as a P.Eng. and eligible for membership in Saskatchewan.
• Strong underground mining expertise, including best practices in mining design and planning.
• Ability to use mine planning software competently (Deswik preferred).
• Ability to use ventilation simulation software competently (Ventsim preferred).
• Proven ability to write and review technical reports (NI 43-101 or equivalent).
• Eligibility to work in Canada.
