The Opportunity
As a Senior Accountant you will be the go-expert for financial reporting, tax compliance and strategic client advisory. More than just crunching numbers—you’ll be optimizing processes, providing valuable insights and guiding businesses toward financial success. With your client-first approach in everything you do, you ensure clients receive the best financial strategies to protect their bottom line.
You will work closely with the leadership team to drive efficiency and support digital integration to streamline accounting workflows. Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Taxation
- Lead and execute financial statement audits, reviews and compilations, including budget and resource requirements.
- Prepare, review, and finalize corporate tax returns, GST/PST filings, and year-end financial statements, responding to CRA inquiries as needed.
- Oversee bookkeeping processes, ensuring proper data entry, reconciliations and adherence to best practices.
- Ensure accuracy between financial statements and corporate tax filings, maintaining accuracy and compliance.
- Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies with a client-first approach while adhering to tax regulations and industry standards.
Client Advisory & Compliance
- Act as a strategic financial advisor for clients, providing recommendations and solutions on current business and financial conditions
- Develop financial forecasts and projects to equip clients with the data necessary to make informed business decisions.
- Guide clients through CRA audits and complex financial matters.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving tax laws and accounting standards to ensure clients remain compliant.
- Uphold the firm’s client-first philosophy by advocating for their best financial interests rather.
Process Improvement & Leadership
- Provide support with optimizing accounting workflows to enhance efficiencies in financial reporting.
- Lead, guide and mentor junior staff, ensuring consistency and accountability in bookkeeping, accounting and tax practices.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to identify growth opportunities and process improvements to enhance operations.
- Support the transition to a fully electronic workflow, leveraging emerging accounting technologies to improve productivity and streamline operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 4 years of public accounting experience, including tax preparation and compliance.
- CPA designation considered an asset.
- Experience in financial statement preparation, corporate tax filings, and CRA compliance.
- Assist with designing solutions to improve the efficiency and effective of the accounting team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive mindset, with the ability to identify potential issues, implement process improvements, and drive efficiencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, allowing you to convey complex financial concepts clearly and concisely to both colleagues and clients.
- Ability to prioritize client satisfaction and strive to exceed their expectations, providing exceptional service and building strong relationships based on trust and reliability.
- Proven ability to sustain a high level of drive and enthusiasm, with a positive attitude when coping with pressure at work.
- Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with financial reporting tools such as Power BI is an asset.
