Position Title: Vice President, Finance

Location: Saskatoon-based | In office

Employment Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership

Our Client

Axiom is where innovation and collaboration collide. A local consulting firm with a global footprint, Axiom is transforming how technical expertise fuels industries like mining, energy, environment, and agriculture.

Headquartered in Saskatoon and founded in 2011, Axiom has grown from a bold idea into a 200+ person team spread across North America, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and beyond. Their growth trajectory plan is steep with a vision to scale far beyond what meets the eye today.

Axiom’s culture is its why. It’s entrepreneurial, humble, and driven by curiosity. Their “nerd culture” is alive and well, water nerds, rock nerds, dirt nerds all united by a belief in failing forward, speaking candidly, and doing work that truly matters. At Axiom, people don’t just work alongside each other, they grow together, mentor one another, and build solutions that leave a lasting impact.

The Opportunity

This is not your traditional finance role. It’s a chance to build the financial backbone of a high-growth, entrepreneurial company scaling across borders and industries.

As Vice President, Finance, you’ll bring clarity, discipline, and foresight to a fast-moving organization. You’ll mentor a young, capable finance team that’s hungry for leadership, stabilize systems and reporting, and set the stage for growth. You’ll play a hands-on role in tightening accounting and reporting, while also serving as a strategic partner to executives on mergers and acquisitions, capital structure, and international expansion.

The ideal candidate thrives in complexity, loves building structure from chaos, and brings both technical financial expertise and the humility to grow with a dynamic, people-first organization.

Key Responsibilities

As the VP, Finance, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the finance function, balancing hands-on accounting oversight with forward-looking financial strategy.
  • Build financial models that anticipate growth, international expansion, and M&A scenarios.
  • Partner with executives on capital planning, lending relationships, and investor engagement.

2. Operational Finance & Systems

  • Drive adoption and optimization of the new ERP, ensuring finance processes support scale and efficiency.
  • Establish reliable, timely financial reporting, providing clarity to leadership and the board.
  • Monitor KPIs and deliver actionable insights to improve performance.

3. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax laws, and international financial regulations.
  • Oversee treasury, facilities, banking, and risk management processes.
  • Manage audits, financings, and institutional covenants with rigor.

4. Development & Succession

  • Mentor and elevate the current finance team.
  • Define roles, set expectations, and build a culture of accountability and growth.

Qualifications

As the VP, Finance, you will possess the following qualities:

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

  • CPA designation required; CFA or MBA considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally in consulting, engineering, mining, or project-based industries.
  • Proven expertise in IFRS reporting, M&A, and international finance.
  • Hands-on ERP implementation and financial systems transformation experience.
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead audits, manage financing arrangements, and oversee treasury functions.

The Intangibles (Soft Skills):

  • A mentor and coach, passionate about developing finance professionals into confident leaders.
  • Entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented, comfortable building structure in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
  • Collaborative and humble, with the ability to build trust across executives, technical teams, and external partners.
  • Confident decision-maker with resilience, thick skin, and the judgment to balance short-term realities with long-term vision.
  • Curious and proactive, always scanning for risks, opportunities, and efficiencies that position Axiom for growth.

What Our Client Offers

Axiom’s culture and benefits reflect their commitment to people-first leadership:

  • Vacation & Leaves: vacation, sick days, community volunteer days.
  • Group Benefits: employer-paid extended health and dental coverage.
  • Wellness Program: choose from Health Spending, Lifestyle Spending or Group Retirement Savings.
  • Professional Development: annual allowance for courses, certifications, and professional dues.
  • Phone Allowance: phone allowance, plus access to corporate package pricing for employees and families.
  • Short-Term Incentive (STI) Bonus Program: Eligibility for performance bonuses.
  • Culture & Growth: A chance to work in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment where curiosity is celebrated.
