Summary

ALS Action Canada is a national, patient-led movement dedicated to finding a cure the disease. Although ALS is one of the most brutal diseases facing humanity, hope is on the horizon. Promising treatments are emerging, but the clock is ticking for Canadian communities caring for loved ones. ALS Action Canada is working with government, researchers, charities, businesses to create a collaborative path to real change - ensuring that people with ALS have equitable access to support and treatment, and genuine hope for a long and healthy life.

ALS Action Canada has prioritized collaboration, believing that only joint efforts among researchers, charities, businesses and governments will create meaningful change. The ALS Super Fund was created as a vehicle for this collaboration. Over the past year, the ALS Super Fund has generated mass support, including from the NHL and all 32 clubs.

ALS Action Canada is looking for an Executive Director to support this growing grassroots movement, to bring collaborative energy, and creativity to the challenge of ending ALS. The Executive Director will work with the Board to develop action plans, grow and support our membership, and contribute to fundraising, dialogue, and awareness.

What You’ll Do

  • Build on the growing momentum of the ALS Super Fund and our ongoing fundraising efforts.
  • Facilitate a collaborative strategic review process and design action plans in alignment with the strategy.
  • Create and implement a member recruitment strategy, growing total active membership.
  • Provide ongoing support to ALSAC Committees, including administration, research, and communications products.
  • Create and manage/coordinate a communications plan that would further organizational objectives by utilizing the ALSAC website, social media handles, and other online opportunities to promote greater public engagement.
  • Map the policy environment and develop an engagement plan for members to have constructive discussion with influencers and decision-makers.
  • Create strong, frequent internal communication channels among Board, members, staff, and volunteers. The Executive Director will be expected to create an open, encouraging, collaborative working culture by proactively communicating with the full membership.
  • Establish and maintain an online database of ALSAC contacts and networks, including volunteers.

What We are Looking For

  • A purpose-driven leader, passionate about supporting a movement to end ALS.
  • A confident, humble, service-oriented leader focused on supporting ALSAC members and volunteers to achieve results.
  • A collaborative team-builder capable of creating a constructive, enjoyable organizational culture.
  • A strong fundraiser with a track record of leading successful campaigns.
  • A sound administrator with experience creating strategies, work plans, budgets, and risk management plans while building the organizational architecture required for effective, transparent operations.
  • An effective communicator capable of winning the trust and confidence of members and external partners.
  • A creative and agile thinker, ready to develop and revise plans based on a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Bonus Points
  • Experience with the ALS community is ideal, but not required. A commitment to the cause, however, and a dogged belief in the ability of the ALSAC movement to affect the lives of ALS patients and caregivers, is non-negotiable.
  • Strong understanding of the charitable sector including CRA regulations.
