Position Purpose:

The Director, Leadership Giving provides leadership in the planning, execution and growth of major gift fundraising within a portfolio of donors to advance organizational priorities and maximize philanthropic investment. Through the development and execution of donor, volunteer, and campaign strategies, the Director drives revenue growth, deepens donor engagement, and strengthens the major gift pipeline in support of Breakthrough T1D's fundraising goals. Working collaboratively across the organization, the Director leads cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and volunteer engagement strategies that inspire major giving and deliver an exceptional donor experience.

 

This position covers the main markets of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the support of one direct report within the same region.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of new and existing donors through strategic cultivation, solicitation and stewardship that secure major gifts ranging from $5,000-$1,000,000;
  • Provide leadership, coaching and performance management to the Manager, Leadership Giving of Alberta and Prairies, overseeing the development and execution of strategic fundraising plans to secure gifts between $5,000 and $100,000;
  • Develop and execute individualized donor strategies aligned with organizational priorities and campaign objectives;
  • Lead disciplined moves management strategies that deepen donor engagement, increase gift levels, improve retention, and advance prospects through the giving pipeline;
  • Deliver personalized stewardship and engagement strategies that inspire transformational, multi-year, and stretch commitments;
  • Build meaningful relationships with qualified prospects that result in new and diversified revenue streams. Collaborate with a team of major gift professionals to identify and qualify prospects and build appropriate strategies to capture giving potential;
  • Recruit, engage, and support volunteer leaders and campaign cabinet members to expand networks, identify and cultivate prospects, and advance fundraising opportunities;
  • Serve as a strategic partner to regional staff to develop and execute integrated donor strategies that deepen engagement and increase philanthropic investment;
  • Lead and advance campaign priorities within assigned region, driving strategic donor engagement and revenue growth in support of annual and campaign objectives;
  • Contribute to cross-functional, collaborative strategy sessions with colleagues to strengthen alignment and long-term revenue growth;
  • Support the development and execution of annual business plans for region within the Leadership Giving program;
  • Support the development of compelling briefing materials, proposals and presentations for donor meetings;
  • Monitor portfolio health, pipeline progression, and revenue forecasts, regularly assessing performance against annual fundraising and campaign goals;
  • Report on fundraising activities and donor engagement to support informed decision-making and stakeholder alignment;
  • Ensure CRM is maintained with accurate and timely donor activity, engagement plans and opportunity tracking.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years progressive leadership experience in fundraising and a University or College degree in Business Management, Fundraising or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CFRE designation an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of the development of major gifts, with proven success closing major gifts and partnering with senior volunteers.
  • Experience building consensus and achieving results in a complex business environment.
  • Understanding of type 1 diabetes or auto immune conditions and the process of peer-reviewed research is an asset.
  • Flexible hours to accommodate various meetings and events with staff, volunteers and donors are a requirement for this position.
  • Ability to travel to meet with donors, volunteers and stakeholders as needed (approx. 30%).
  • A Valid Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is required; Must reside in the Greater Vancouver area.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

 

 

Must demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to identify leadership giving opportunities and quickly assess interest, capacity and connection.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit to grow major gift program by moving quickly on opportunities.
  • Ability to articulate the mission and goals of Breakthrough T1D to the community at large both verbally and in all forms of written communication.
  • Ability to build and manage strong relationships with donors, corporate partners, volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders, demonstrating diplomacy, sound judgment, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Successful experience in establishing and executing long-term plans while leveraging immediate opportunities and managing short-term objectives.
  • Strong data analysis, strategic planning, and results-oriented skills.
  • Resourceful and organized; able to manage competing priorities, complex situations and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to influence with integrity and to work independently.


Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: $90,000–$120,000 annually
