About Dragon Boat BC: Since 1989, Dragon Boat BC has been the driving force behind North America's flagship dragon boat festival, the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival, and operates Dragon Zone Paddling Club. With year-round paddling operations and a packed event schedule, we passionately celebrate the traditional Chinese cultural sport of dragon boat. Our vibrant events and programs attract over 1 million visits each year, creating a dynamic and inclusive community centered around the thrill of dragon boat events and Festivals.

 

About the Workplace: This role will be based primarily in the heart of Vancouver's vibrant Chinatown neighbourhood. Other work sites will include our Olympic Village club facility, as well as our sites throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. In the near future, we will be centralizing our operations at the Dragon Boat BC Chinatown Hub, a dynamic and inspiring facility with modern amenities and innovative features, fostering creativity, community engagement, and excellence in dragon boat racing.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies and programs.
  • Create forecasting reports for departmental spending, including media buys and operational costs.
  • Track marketing metrics and conduct budget reviews to optimize ROI.
  • Cultivate existing relationships, and build new relationships with media partners, contractors, community, influencers, and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and contractors to produce creative content across various platforms and support internal initiatives.
  • Manage digital communication platforms, including social media, email, and website content.
  • Represent Dragon Boat BC at key media events, and sponsor stakeholder meetings.
  • Integrate Society programs and partner messaging into marketing campaigns.
  • Gather market insights to enhance outreach strategies and analyze marketing effectiveness.
  • Manage all aspects of content creation, photography and copywriting for all social media.
  • Handle media inquiries and coordinate press releases with external PR firm.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Dragon Boat BC at events and initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for brand campaigns, event partnerships, and community activations.
  • Develop marketing program management/ delivery processes and coordinate staffing and training with HR.
  • Promote events to internal and external stakeholders through various channels.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience and a proven track record of marketing, communications, and event management success.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese. 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities; vigorous attention to detail; and exceptional time and organizational management.
  • Positive, collaborative approach with demonstrated management skills.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly computer-literate with strong office suite, WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite computer skills; knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing in a non-profit setting.
  • Experience with cultural communities, community events, or recreation/sport activities.
  • Media relations experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and first aid certification preferred.

 


Benefits

Salary range: $65,000 to $90,000 plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Vacation: 10 days plus December holiday closure.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: Full-Time

Work format: This position is based in our Chinatown office, with a hybrid / flexible workplace experience during the off-season.

Benefits include extended health, vision, dental, life insurance, LTD after three months.
