About the opportunity:


A leading global shipping group providing integrated transportation and logistics solutions is seeking a General Manager to lead its operations in Curaçao.


Position Summary:


The General Manager will be responsible for leading operations in Curaçao, with a strategic and commercial focus, driving sustainable business growth and strengthening the company's presence in the local and international markets. This position is geared toward professionals with solid experience in the shipping sector, particularly in container operations, port terminals, and business development.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Design and execute the company's overall strategy in Curaçao, aligned with regional objectives.
  • Establish and develop the local operation from the ground up, including organizational structure, business processes, and institutional relationships.
  • Represent the company before port authorities, strategic clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the financial, commercial, and operational performance of the business.
  • Lead the local team, fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration.
  • Identify opportunities in the regional market and anticipate industry trends.
  • Negotiate directly with port terminals to ensure operational efficiency and favorable trading conditions.
  • Supervise and ensure compliance with customs procedures, ensuring fluidity throughout the logistics chain.
  • Manage tariff and pricing strategies aligned with market competitiveness and the company's financial objectives.


Profile and Requirements:


  • Solid experience in the shipping industry, with an emphasis on containers, terminals, and maritime trade.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs processes and port regulations applicable to the international transport of goods.
  • Proven experience negotiating with terminal operators and port authorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to open markets or develop business units from scratch.
  • Proven leadership in managing multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly results-oriented, with strategic thinking and a commercial focus.
  • Operational knowledge of the port and logistics environment, with the ability to effectively coordinate with technical areas.
  • Solid command of pricing strategies and tariff structures in the maritime logistics sector.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively in multicultural environments; knowledge of Dutch or Papiamento is a plus.
