Forensic Structural Engineer
Overview:
We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer in Structural or Civil Engineering to join a growing team specializing in forensic evaluations. This role combines flexibility, hands-on inspections, and report writing to determine the causes of structural damage and failures.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect residential and commercial buildings to identify causes of damage, such as design flaws, construction errors, storm impacts, or maintenance issues.
- Work remotely from a home office (66% of the time) and conduct local site visits (33% of the time), with minimal overnight travel.
- Set your own schedule within a standard 40-hour workweek, with occasional overtime.
- Perform physical inspections, including climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces, and working on rooftops.
- Write clear, professional reports analyzing findings.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and experts in areas such as metallurgy, materials testing, and environmental analysis.
- Participate in structured training and mentorship programs to expand your expertise.
Qualifications:
- Required: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- Experience in at least one of the following: forensic engineering, residential/commercial construction, code enforcement/inspection, roofing, facilities maintenance, materials testing, home inspections, expert witness testimony, residential design, or storm damage assessments.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Physically capable of performing inspections requiring active movement and use of safety equipment.
