As Senior Network Engineer, you will design, configure, and protect the IP networks that the organization's business and security operations depend on.
ABOUT OUR CLIENT
Our client is a public sector transportation organization in the Charleston, SC area. Its IT Operations team manages the networks, security platforms, and supporting systems used across the organization, including those that support safety and law enforcement functions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Administer, configure, and design the IP networks and related hardware across the organization, supporting both general networking needs and special projects.
- Maintain the uptime and accessibility of the security network and systems that support safety and law enforcement.
- Review business and security systems for operational functionality, including network devices, AI based security appliances, virtual server hosts, security platforms, VPN, and Wi-Fi.
- Monitor, maintain, configure, and resolve problems related to large network performance and the transport of data for end users.
- Develop, execute, and track the performance of security measures that protect information, network infrastructure, and computer systems.
- Assist with penetration testing, perform quarterly functions across networks, develop third party penetration testing, and perform patching to mitigate issues as needed.
- Configure hardware and lead special projects for major installations, including large scale camera deployments and the network infrastructure that supports them.
- Develop network architecture that supports business needs for network transport.
- Troubleshoot network problems and keep management informed of any issues that could disrupt daily operations.
- Take inventory of existing network technologies and make sure IP subnetting practices fit each project and department.
- Collaborate with third party support and service vendors to keep the network operational, and explain organizational requirements for network changes.
- Prepare and maintain network diagrams, IT master documents, and records, and review IT drawings and purchase orders for network and software needs.
- Assist other departments with new technology or new installs that require networking.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related area, or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Five years of experience in a related field.
- JNCIA Juniper certification or a higher certification.
- Valid South Carolina driver's license.
- Proficiency in Spanning Tree Protocol (VSTP, RSTP).
- Proficiency in IPv4 addressing and schema.
- Proficiency in Juniper EX series and SRX series network equipment and configuration.
- Ability to configure IPSEC tunnels and firewall configurations for inbound and outbound traffic scenarios.
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi and wireless technologies.
- Proficiency in security practices and software security domains.
- Eligibility to work in the US for any employer (sponsorship is not available).
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE
- Knowledge of networking security environments in commercial transportation settings, including federal security regulations and public transportation safety.
- Knowledge of monitoring and software systems, such as network monitoring tools, video management platforms, access control software, and intercom systems.
- Knowledge of BGP configurations.
- Understanding of the Juniper MIST environment.
- Knowledge of VMware and Nutanix VM network layouts and builds.
