THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment is currently partnered with one the most well-respected and recognized boutique law practices in Western Canada as they look to hire an experienced law-firm Accountant to join their team. The firm places a strong emphasis on employee well-being and work-life balance, offering a hybrid work arrangement. The successful candidate will be meticulous about Trust Accounting and comfortable with ProLaw's accounting modules.

This position is bookkeeping with a heavy compliance overlay - their external accountant handles year-end, tax, and higher analysis.


Responsibilities:

·        Maintaining accurate and detailed financial records;

·        Managing the daily operations of accounting, including AP, AR, billing, payroll, trust accounts, and various account reconciliations;

·        Managing the trust accounts in accordance with the Law Society rules, ensuring that the internal control systems comply with Law Society audit standards, and reporting any errors;

·        Administering payroll and compensation systems, including bonuses;

·        Preparing, analyzing and presenting standard and customized financial reports and forecasts for all locations;

·        Preparing year-end financial statements and supporting working papers, and coordinating with the firm’s external accountant;

·        Managing the firm’s budgeting processes and analyzing the firm’s performance metrics;

·        Managing cash flow, and tax compliance;

·        Managing the firm’s banking relationships;

·        Assisting with management of the firm’s employee share ownership plan, including maintenance of associated reporting tools and schedules;

·        Reviewing processes and functions of the accounting team;

·        Maintaining the established general ledger system and monitoring internal financial controls

·        Preparing regular, timely and accurate financial reports of operational results, trends, and projections for all locations.


Qualifications:

·        College or university completion with Accounting focus

·        Proven experience as an accountant in a law firm environment with a minimum of 3 years of experience

·        Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements

·        Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

·        Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

·        Ability to easily manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

·        Proficiency with Excel and experience with ProLaw, or similar accounting software, is a plus

·        Ability to execute duties with tact and diplomacy while maintaining strict confidentiality
