As an Accountant on an 18-month contract (maternity leave cover), you’ll play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of a multi-division organization. Working closely with the Controller, project managers, and operations teams, you’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing job costing, and ensuring smooth financial processes across multiple business units.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and process journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for month-end and year-end closing
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions
  • Reconcile balance sheet, bank, and intercompany accounts
  • Support the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors
  • Perform variance analysis on job costs, fuel usage, and equipment hours
  • Manage equipment costing, intercompany billing, and credit card expense reports
  • Gather and input data from multiple systems into the company’s ERP
  • Assist with cheque deposits, cash receipts, and related accounting functions
  • Provide financial data and insights to support management decision-making

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience (construction or engineering industry experience is an asset)
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and job cost principles
  • Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with accounting software (Viewpoint, Sage 300, or similar preferred)
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
