About the Role

Our client in Vancouver, a long-standing business with more than 70 years in business, multiple plants globally, and a leader in its industry, is looking for a Mechanical Supervisor with strong hands-on experience in Sheet Metal and Millwrighting, with some good electrical knowledge, to supervise the trades team in a unionized environment.

The Supervisor will be responsible for 60% of the time being present on the floor, ensuring all maintenance remains on schedule, safety practices are enforced, and providing mechanical support to the team. The additional 40% of the responsibilities include administrative work, which includes inventory and parts management, being a part of morning meetings, placing purchase orders, scheduling, and a bit of payroll, as well as managing contractor and vendor relationships.

The shift times for this opportunity are from Monday to Friday, from 6 AM to 3:30 PM, with the requirement of on-call availability for overtime and weekends when necessary.

Experience with large, heavy-duty, and large material handling equipment is a strong requirement.

Main Duties

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies.
  • Supervise mechanical trades staff: scheduling, attendance, performance, and safety compliance.
  • Manage parts inventory, procurement, and maintenance materials.
  • Enforce safety standards, training, and regulatory compliance for all mechanical work.
  • Oversee inspections, upgrades, and shutdown activities.
  • Coordinate with contractors and external service providers.
  • Contribute to preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Support budgeting and planning for repairs, capital projects, and equipment improvements.
  • Manage maintenance and capital project execution within schedule and budget.
  • Provide occasional electrical team support and after-hours on-call coverage.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a Supervisory or Chargehand role.
  • Journeyman or Red Seal Sheet Metal or Millwright status is a strong asset.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills (especially in a unionized setting).
  • Hands-on mechanical troubleshooting in automated industrial environments.
  • Computer proficiency (CMMS, Microsoft Office).
  • Analytical and systematic maintenance approach.
  • Focus on reliability and efficiency optimization.

Compensation

  • $125,000 to $145,000, depending on experience and mechanical skillset.
  • Pro-rated annual bonus plan available.
  • Unionized and lucrative pension plan.
  • 4-weeks vacation to start.
  • 100% paid for visual and dental coverage.
  • Life insurance and long-term disability.
  • Health spending account of $500.
  • A strong collaborative work environment and more!
