THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment is partnering with a well-established North American organization operating within the environmental services and infrastructure sector to recruit a Controller for their Abbotsford operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a Controller to join a financially strong, growth-oriented business that provides essential services to communities and commercial customers across Canada.


This role is ideal for a CPA qualified Controller who enjoys partnering with operations and making a tangible impact on business performance at an organization that empowers its local leadership teams while offering the support, stability and career progression of a large, publicly traded company.


The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting activities for the district while acting as a trusted business partner to operational leadership. You'll play a key role in driving financial performance, strengthening internal controls, budgeting, forecasting and supporting strategic business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the monthly close process, including preparation of financial statements
  • Prepare account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
  • Complete monthly forecasts and variance analysis against budget
  • Partner closely with operational leaders to provide financial insights and recommendations
  • Lead the annual budgeting process
  • Prepare capital expenditure requests and supporting financial analysis
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and reporting processes
  • Coordinate inventory counts and asset tracking
  • Coach and support non-financial managers on financial processes and controls
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA designation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • 4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accounting leadership role
  • Strong financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Excellent business partnering and communication skills
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
