THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Materials Buyer to join a manufacturing team on a 12-week temporary contract, with the possibility of extension. Reporting directly to the Materials Manager, this position plays a key role in supporting the purchasing and procurement functions to ensure materials are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and on time to meet production demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Purchase goods, materials, components, and services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to forecast demand and evaluate inventory levels to maintain optimal stock
  • Source and evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability, and negotiate terms to maximize value
  • Prepare and process purchase orders using JD Edwards (JDE)
  • Monitor order status, track deliveries, and resolve issues such as backorders, discrepancies, or delays
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records in the ERP system
  • Conduct market and cost analysis to identify cost savings and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Support vendor management through regular communication, performance tracking, and relationship building
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as production, scheduling, and logistics to ensure supply continuity
  • Assist with reporting and other materials-related duties as required


REQUIREMENTS

  • MRO experience is a must
  • Purchasing experience is a must
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a strong asset
  • Solid understanding of purchasing principles and supply chain processes
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure
  • Dependable, proactive, and able to work both independently and within a team
