Structural Technician III

Position Summary

As a Structural Technician III, you will use your skills and expertise to assemble and/or create major assembly structures and perform minor part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming.You will be responsible for aligning parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures, and measuring parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. You may also be responsible for modifying incomplete and complete assemblies, incorporating changes into the structure, and monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Assemble and create major structural assemblies for aerospace vehicles
  • Perform minor part-fitting operations including filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming
  • Align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures
  • Measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances
  • Modify incomplete and complete assemblies and incorporate structural changes as required
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process controls and other quality procedures
  • Follow technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and other technical publications
  • Maintain proper installation techniques while ensuring correct edge distance and pitch

Physical / Mental / Emotional Requirements

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat the same hand, arm, and finger motions, requiring strong finger and hand dexterity
  • Frequently use vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color differentiation
  • Frequently use hearing abilities including discerning different tones and volumes
  • Frequently lift or carry up to 50 pounds

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise environments

Safety Sensitive Position

This is a safety-sensitive position responsible for the safety or security of people or property. Responsibilities may include:

  • Inspecting structures, equipment, or vehicles
  • Performing aviation-related duties
  • Operating or supervising vehicles, heavy equipment, or potentially dangerous machinery


Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Typically 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of the required education
  • Must have and maintain personal tools in good working order
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and publications
  • Ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining proper edge distance and pitch
  • Progressive experience with structural assembly and minor part-fitting techniques
  • Experience with repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable
  • Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks


Preferred

  • Ability to travel
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, or U.S. Military
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required
